This actually is pretty hot. Cheaper DDR2 memory, relatively easy upgrades and more compatible ports...I might be tempted to get one too, provided that I can pawn off my Dell.

Yeah, that basically eliminates the main advantage the aluminum ones had over the plastic one. Now it's $300 for a pretty case and an extra 40 GB.

Well, no....the aluminum MB also has LED backlighting.

Ooh forgot about that, that's a HUGE drawback for me. I'm in love with LED backlighting...and the new white one clearly says TFT:

I think I'm a noob. What are the benefits of LED backlighting, other than the instant on? Just thinner?

Less power consumption, better color reproduction, will always be the same brightness until it breaks, thinner, lighter.

For me it's the brightness/colors. I've never seen any laptop screen that looks better, period.

So far, I'm a fan of the trackpad. I didn't like it much until I turned on tap-click. Actually pushing the button down is kind of clunky, mostly because it requires more pressure to do it towards the top of the pad and that's where I tend to click.

I got used to holding my hand in such a way that I just thwack my thumb down upon the button on my trackpad, so the way the new one is hinged works well for me.

Of course... I don't have one... which saddens me.

Now, the $999 question is: should I pawn off my hackintoshed MSI Wind (minus OSX) on craigslist so I can go back to a proper Mac laptop again?

Well, after speaking with my local Apple store and looking around at the refurb'ed selection I decided to order a refurbed 2.2GHz Blackbook for $999 instead...I hate you Apple!

Oh wells, I did like the black better than white polycarbonate casing, and plus for $50 more I get 40GB more space and a processor that's 200MHz faster.

Yeah I saw this too, it really makes it harder to decide which macbook to pick up. The LED backlight and the trackpad are the main hold ups now. Does anyone know if the new track pad can do more than the older one (besides the whole thing being the button)?

I think he means hold ups in terms of making him think about spending more money. The 'hold-up' from him pulling the trigger on the $999 MacBook.

The new MacBooks have the ability to track at least 5 points. So, you can use 4 fingers in a swipe to activate expose, and then click (or tap click) and drag something, swipe again, and drop. Much more than the simple 2 finger secondary clicking and scrolling on the plastic macbooks.
