Hello everyone!

Long time PC user here, but I ordered a 13" rMBP that should come in tomorrow. Anyways, I'd like to get the input from the experts here as to which browser to use for general web surfing, streaming videos from netflix / amazon, youtube, etc.

Is Safari the best browser for the OSX platform, or does Chrome / Firefox g offer better performance?

I created a poll just to get a snapshot of the results, but please chime in and let me know what aspects or features make your browser of choice the one to use.

thank you for your time and consideration!

I bought my first Mac a couple months ago and I'm using Safari.

Why? Simple. It was the default thing and I haven't hit a problem with it yet.

Technically I am using Safari, I guess.

But I voted for other as I use the nighty versions of Webkit browser.

I also use Chrome and/or Firefox for accessing my University online file system as it doesn't like Java on Safari.

For general use I would only recommend Safari or Webkit as they are 64bit based while Chrome and Firefox are not.

Chrome ... consistentcy and cross-device syncing are the features I like. Also use Chrome most on the iPhone.

I use Safari. It works perfectly fine for me, but so does IE on Windows if that counts for anything.

I do have Chrome installed, just in case. I don't think I've used Firefox on OS X in years.

Mainly Firefox for me. And while the setup is a little goofy, it synchronizes everything (bookmarks, logins, plug-ins) between my Mac laptop and Windows desktop very nicely. I'll use Safari and Chrome occasionally, but I'm still most comfortable with Firefox's interface.

Chrome for the same reasons as others. I don't mind Safari, sometimes use it. Firefox I use only for a few plugins like DownThemAll and VideoDownloadHelper, but as a general browser it feels bloated and slow to me lately compared to others.

I use Firefox, largely because I've been using it since it existed and thus I'm most familiar with it. I'll use Safari and Chrome for some specific things, however.

Chrome all the way. It's the best browser there is. I also prefer its web dev tools over Safari.

My backup browser is Safari.

If you're not on WebKit, you're missing out.

Firefox with a load of extensions.

Chrome is too tracky, spy-ish for me.

Chromium is a decent alternative, but I need my extensions.

does Chrome/Chromium offer all of these, or good equivalents?

Same here. I use FF mostly out of inertia. I went from IE6 to Phoenix/Firebird back in 2003. Never looked back. Crazy to think that I've been using this browser for 10 years now. I remember the co-worker who first showed it to me. I was like "Built off of Netscape.... hmm." But the tabs got me hooked. Hard to imagine that there was a time when browsers didn't have tabs.

FF is definitely bloated and slow on OSX, but better the devil that I know than the devil I don't know. LOL, it's currently taking up 5.03GB. Currently have 10 FF windows and ~100 tabs open. I probably should restart it, it's been a week or two.... lessee, July 21, yep, over 2 weeks. Funny that I can now measure my browser uptime in weeks.

I do use Safari and Opera for specific things. Mostly when sites don't work well in FF, or I want to keep work stuff separate from personal stuff (gmail logins and such). I don't think I've ever used Chrome. I guess I don't see how it could be much different than Safari.

Chrome here. I like Safari but it's a RAM hog since v5 and doesn't get security updates for older big cats.

FF. On my 2006 macbook it's faster than chrome, and I have anti-google paranoia.

Sometimes I use safari, because some google docs documents require login with google account when accessed with firefox, but don't require it when accessed with safari.

Chrome is my second choice but I hate the interface to death. Safari would be cool if it weren't for the crippling memory leaks.

I appreciate all of the responses and input from everyone here! Yesterday was my first day with my new rMBP. I must say that after about 10 minutes on Safari, I had to go download Firefox. I've used FF primarily on my PC, and I guess humans are creatures of habit. That, and the fact that my online university officially supports FF made it a no brainer. I still plan to use Safari from time to time, but I expect that the majority of my web browsing will be done on firefox.

All three. FF for regular trusted stuff, Chrome for random browsing, Safari for when its the only browser that works (Silverlight apps and Apple.com).

Safari. I'm on an MBP, so battery life is important and when The Verge reviewed the '13 MBAs, they showed that Chrome's efficiency was less than optimal (regardless of whether it's "satisfactory"). That was when I switched from Chrome to Safari.

I also use Safari on iOS, so the multi-device info+tab syncing via a single login is also pretty sweet.
