Applecare for Macbook Pro 15"

Is it worth the $350 price tag? What do they cover? Anywhere I can get it cheaper? This is for the newest Macbook Pro.

Yes, definitely get it. I've bought AppleCare many times from this site, and it's the cheapest price I've ever seen.

Absolutely. NEVER EVER buy a Mac laptop without it. Most warranties are scams, but Apple makes good on theirs. The problem is that Mac laptops are expensive, as well as difficult to fix, so if you run into problems you're pretty much hosed unless you have AppleCare. On one of my Macbooks, the mainboard had issues and cost $1224 to replace, all covered under warranty.

AppleCare does not cover against Accidental Damage, so that is something that you have to keep in mind. If you drop it and the screen breaks, then you are up sh!t creek.

My standard Macbook kit:

1. Padded case (I have an Ogio backpack)

2. Hard shell (such as a Speck case)

3. Marware Protection Plus (wristpad)

That plus AppleCare...the day you sell your laptop and peel off the wristpad and hard shell, your computer will look absolutely brand new - mint.

I am on my second Apple laptop. The first one I bought Applecare for, and it saved my ass. The second I did not because I was in the middle of an expensive long-distance move just out of college and couldn't afford it. I've been lucky and not had issues with the second. The first Applecare basically made it possible for me to get the second laptop for free. If you have the money, get it. Plain and simple. Also, if you can get accidental damage protection through a credit card or homeowner's policy, do that too -- especially if you plan to travel with it extensively.

When I got my MacBook I did not get the AppleCare, by the time I finally realized that maybe I should, I couldn't really afford it. Thankfully, nothing has happened on it that would necessitate AppleCare, but my next MacBook will definitely have it.

I put an Invisible Shield on it (which I have since removed), and carry it in a nicely padded laptop bag. All the same, I do not exactly treat it with kid gloves as it were. However, it has held up like a champ.

yes get it!

look into speck and incase. i have the speck satin hardcase for my unibody mbp and its great. it does add a bit of weight to it, but otherwise its awesome.

you can get applecare off ebay for around $180. Makes it completely worth it at that price.

I got applecare, and then my 8600m gt GPU on my logic board died, and I had to get it replaced. Helluva lot cheaper with applecare that's for sure.
