Applied at Best Buy (Update 11/6)

I walked into the store busy as usual and I found a guy working in computer section, but I think he was just part of stocking. any how I asked him he said they are calling everyone that applies and they need people for black Friday..ect

Well I applied to sell electronics.. this would be my first official job.


Any how I am going to call tomorrow and speak to the Hiring manager and let him/her know I applied and for what.


hope they call me, the job requires 6 month of customer service and in my high school I was the volunteer fixing computers and helping the teachers..ect for many school years. So that's what I put down. Hope that's good enough...

Update 11/06/09: Got hired as a seasonal worker for now, the hourly rate I got was 1 buck under what I was expecting, but this is my first official job and I need some stuff on my resume so, I accepted if they hire me for part time after the season is over, ill ask for the buck.

So basically went in at 11am talked to the guy who called me, scheduled an interview at 3:30, I did the interview very easy, then did another interview same questions..ect,signed some papers, now I just need to piss in a cup and hope they have a good schedule for me.

Just be humble on the phone, but also let him know you're eager to work, will put in long hours if needed, and won't let him down.

I actually applied at BB here for a job after I graduate. I kind of want something that isn't so permanent, like a desk job working 8-5. Best of luck to you. I actually worked for Geek Squad from '06 - '07 and actually enjoyed it and my co-workers. Fun place to work. Customers aren't always the greatest, but the BB I worked had was in a part of town where people from the hood could go, and people with a lot of money could go. So I saw all walks of life.

I didn't know that about the questionairre...is that true, for sure? I filled that thing out a couple weeks ago and answered the inbetweens quite a few times. You think I could get away with just going in and talking about it? Should I get my hair cut?

Good luck with the application! The follow-up call is a good idea. It's how I landed my first job at a grocery store; the hiring manager hadn't even looked at the applications, and I was the first to call back (two days later).

Good luck. I applied for computer tech support at UCLA for work study about 2 months ago and they never called back. Then today out of no where they called me and I was like huh, then it hit me and I was all excited haha. I got an interview for next Thursday.

You need to insist on talking to the manager one on one. This has worked for me countless times, maybe because it shows I was motivated, or maybe had thick enough skin for rejection that I could handle the job. Just insist on talking to someone in management if you don't hear back. Most people never do this, and typically they're surprised when someone does from my experience. If they weren't going to hire you anyways, you have nothing to lose by going all out to get their attention. I can almost bet they'll at least find you a shift or two, then work you more once you prove yourself. Oh...kissing ass goes far, as does doing your boss's work. Once you start covering for your boss, you'd have to punch a baby to get fired, lol. Ok, kidding, but its close to that.

yup I read up on that. Its a pass/fail thing. Its works like this. No---I dont know---Yes is how you need to look at it.


yea, I am going to call the manager that's in charge of hiring let them know I am applied and I am ready to work asap.

Its a job I can mostly enjoy and not have to kill my self. But I might be way over qualified lol. So I don't know if I should make my self look like I know everything like I do, or just a little bit but not too much into detail for the interview.

1st interview, what do you think of bestbuy, why do you want to work here, list 2 good and bad qualities about your self...

2nd interview : basic computer questions, do you know the difference between hardware and software.. if a customer comes up and tells you their computer is running slow why might it be...

3rd interview- you are in, they schedule your times and how much you will make.

default answer: Whatever helps our team. Granted, this usually only works in MAJOR corporate shit job environments. I cooked in restaurants for years, so I got to the point that I just told them that I can do the job blindfolded and show up everyday, also giving them a bit of truth about what I know how to do. Always got hired, always got away with doing what I wanted, nobody would ever fire me. In a way, I miss those days, but I'm a lot happier now doing my own thing. Basically, if you work hard and go above and beyond, you're a manager's dream, and your job is safe. Just WORK hard, and you'll do fine.

So I called a few times today and no one picked up, just now I finally got someone and ask that I wanted to speak with the manager that's in charge of hiring. The person on the phone asked if I applied I said I did, then she said oh they are not hiring till next year.. then I mentioned how an associate said that they were hireing and calling everyone. Gave her my name and she said that she will let them know. I don't know if she is anybody or what, but I am going to call on Monday about 10 min after they open in the AM and try to speak to the Manager in charge of hiring and let them know that I called on friday..and ill explain again why I am calling. I am about 70% sure the person who I talked too will not be relaying the info lol.

I got hired there and didn't even need the job

I was going to get a second job at one time, then something shifted with our finances where it was no longer needed. They called me for a phone interview (which I do at my current job) and pwned the interviewer. They wanted me to start the next day and I went, "ehh...keep me on file".

Funny, so did I during the same year. The job fuckin blew, but it was fun as hell at times.

They asked canned questions like "What does the word "Team" mean to you. I went into a textbook speech about teamwork, leadership, and the difference between a member and a follower. I think she was crying when I was done. I probably could have asked her out at that point lol.

Update: I called today and the Hiring manager is not in today, ill call tomorrow after my class is over at 10:50. Meh my friend who applied in a different state got an interview time already, guess their manager is not slacking lol.
