Aqua Teen sends Boston into panic

I have to admit, I was laughing hysterically when the details of it started to emerge on the news. There was this official who was on the verge of bursting out in laughter as he described the situation on the phone (it appears to be spongebob giving people the finger) to wolf blitzer on CNN, and once they showed the picture of the mooninites flipping people off "as hard as they could", I just lost it.

While it was an indescribably stupid move by cartoon network, was there no voice of reason in the entire boston PD to at least check into it?

2. The best part was when the spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said that hoaxes aren't funny, and there's no place for them in a post-9/11 world. I guess all forms of humor are going next.

yeah i agree. before causing city wide panic why not take a look to see wtf it is?

but not that dumb of a move by cartoon network. whats the worse that can happen to them? the stuff looked nothing like a bomb. sure they might get fined but nothing major. yet they are getting craploads of press!

I don't see them even deserving even a fine. A hoax requires deception, and there was none in this case. Except for the self deception, maybe, of the people in the Boston PD paranoid and stupid enough to turn blinking led lights turn into a city wide bomb scare.

but you know they are going to get nailed one way or another. i expect that the workers who did it (not the people that aproved it atold them to do it) to get arrested and fined.

Haven't you ever seen the movies? All terrorists plant bombs with blinking lights, a microphone that beeps, and an easy-to-see LED readout of the exact time remaining before it explodes. It usually also has some easy-to-cut wires hanging off of it.

Because deep down, I'd really like to believe that the people in charge of these things are not such blithering idiots that actually believe real bombs have blinking LEDs on them.
