you're right! they should probably jail bands putting up flyers on telephone poles, as well as anyone posting info about their missing dogs!

But these were sinister. They had wires. And batteries. And a little guy flipping you the bird! If they blinked they might cause seizures, and I bet they didn't have warnings written on them about that.

That picture from Fox News is hilarious. And I'm surprised that Fox News, of all people, actually are censoring the middle finger.

Haven't you ever seen the movies? All terrorists plant bombs with blinking lights, a microphone that beeps, and an easy-to-see LED readout of the exact time remaining before it explodes. It usually also has some easy-to-cut wires hanging off of it.

THE GREEN ONE! CUT THE GREEN ONE

Technically those things are illegal too in most places but common sense prevails since someone looking for their missing pet or a local band advertising a gig is a bit different than a multi-million dollar corporation that can afford to purchase billboard and TV spots to advertise their program.

"common sense" is not prevailing in this instance..

unless the marketeers are released with maybe a slap on the wrist. That will restore some common sense.

This just makes me love the show that much more. I wonder how many people who have never seen the show will now tune in to see what it's all about? The show is more advanced than they can comprehend with 100% of their brains...

The man is an illiterate buffon. Have you ever heard him give a speech? He reads it off the teleprompter which is unfortunate since he reads at a 2nd grade level.

This whole 9/11 scare crap needs to come to an end already. Yes, the people responsible for the attack should be brought to justice and there is definitely a part of me that wants revenge, but at some point we need to be reasonable. We can't continue to be scared of our own shadows because of that one event.

To put it in perspective:

The official number of fatalities from 9/11 as of 9/5/02 was 2819. That IS an awful tragedy. It also took the lives of many courageous people trying to save others in the towers. It was truly a sad day and I wanted those responsible to hang for their actions. But 6 years later we must take a look back and look at the bigger picture.

In 2001, 42,196 people were killed in car crashes. Of those, 17,400 involved alcohol.

According to the CDC, about 36,000 people die from the flu every year.

According to the FBI, 16,037 people were murdered in 2001.

According to the ACS, 553,400 people were killed by cancer in the US in 2001. Biggest of those? Lung cancer, with 157,400 fatalities.

I didn't do a long search for causes of death in 2001, but I can tell you that according to the CDC, in 2004, the leading cause of death was heart disease with 654,092 deaths. That's a truly staggering number.

Alzheimer's disease killed nearly 66,000. Septicemia killed 33 thousand (2004 statistics), you get the idea.

Where are the billions spent to prevent drunk driving? Where is the trillion dollars to fight heart disease? Maybe billions should be spent getting people off of tobacco, finding treatments for cancer and Alzheimer's disease, giving free vaccinations for the flu, researching new antibiotics to combat septicemia, providing more education and after school programs to bring down the number of murders, etc.

You are more likely to die eating your Big Mac (3,300 suffocation deaths per year), then driving home (42,000 deaths per year), assuming you don't get robbed and murdered in the parking lot (16,000 murders). Maybe you'll want to go for a swim after eating all that fat. Hope you don't have a heart attack (654,000 deaths per year) while exercising. Of course, that is if the pool itself doesn't claim you (4,000 drowning deaths per year). Maybe after swimming, you have to go take your blood pressure medication (nearly 17,000 deaths from hypertension in 1999), but be careful not to take too much (8,600 deaths per year from poisoning). Hell, with all these dangers, maybe you should just go jump off a cliff (14,900 falling deaths per year) and join the others that have done the same (29,199 suicide deaths in 1999).

I can't believe how important terrorism is to people when you are FAR, FAR more likely to die doing everyday tasks. It's time to put this thing in perspective. If we really want to spend money to prevent American deaths, then there is better value elsewhere. But I guess people are sheep.

so we should only prosecute people/corporations that can afford to be prosecuted? we should allow laws to be broken if the perpetrator is well-meaning? i'd prefer consistency from a code of laws rather than arbitrary enforcement.

I think the best part of this story was this morning on NBC. The video they showed blurred-out the little light-brite dude's middle finger. I can't believe the censors found this necessary.

The sinister part in this story is the fact that the authority can't admit to making a mistake.

They want to be seen as protecting the public. All I see is a bunch of fear mongering politicians.

I have never met a single person afraid of terrorism. It's just political correctness gone bad, and even though most people know what you say is true, it would be political suicide for someone to come out and say it.

now all we need is some terrorist to buy that sign off ebay, stick a bomb on it, and blow up some federal building. that would be great.

Seriously, I heard about this on the radio on the way to work today, but I had no idea it was ATHF at the centre of it. Just makes me love it so much more. And until this thread, I had no idea there was a movie coming out.

This has got to have worked out beyond the wildest dreams of the creators of this stunt. how could they have imagined that they would shut down a major US centre with Err lightbrights flipping people off.

I was having a bad day before this, but things are looking up.

the bombs blink in Command & Conquer too, I've never seen a real bomb, as I'd imagine nobody on ATOT has either. If I based what I did off what I saw in movies/tv & video games I would have thought it was teh b0mb!

I was just playing C&C Generals and did the mission where they put the bombs on the bridge and blew it up killing most of my troops and destroying a lot of my tanks, don't think it can't happen in boston
