You'd think, however, that the response by the city would to be figure out what one was before turning it into a terrorist scare.

Nah... that would make too much sense!

Sure is nice to know that Boston's finest are on the case!

Face it folks, the people "protecting" us are by & large a bunch of bumbling idiots & when the next serious terror attack comes (which sadly it sooner or later will) they will most likely be caught with their pants down, just like last time.

don't judge all bostonians as idiots. only the ones with power are the ones who don't know what is going on. I was watching on boston.com all day yesterday as this all unfolded because it messed up my commute badly. I was worried for a little bit that it might have actually been a bomb because that is all they kept telling us. When i finally saw a picture of the thing i was furious. What freakin bomb expert couldn't tell the difference between a bomb and the equivalent of a flash light. The guy either needs to go back to school or get some new glasses.

when marketing goes bad... how can you NOT realize that a device with a blinking LED could be seen as a bomb of some sort?

Because deep down, I'd really like to believe that the people in charge of these things are not such blithering idiots that actually believe real bombs have blinking LEDs on them.

Whoever actually thinks that deserves to have their pants pulled down and spanked with moon rocks.

wow...
what better way to get away with something than to make it look like something else, something harmless?

hey, that teddy bear with the countdown timer and the wires sticking out of it looks harmless. i mean come on, its a teddy bear! why would anyone do anything to hurt a cute cuddly little teddy bear?

i heard this morning that these things were put up in several other cities, one being new york, and no one made a stink about it.

I find this funny as just the other day I was thinking of making some of these and spraying them around town...guess probably not a good idea now, no?

Definately because tons of people want them and they are going for big money on ebay. Has anyone found a how to on how to make one of these things yet. It can't be all that hard. It's basically some led's, a circuit board and duracells. You could probably make one on the cheap for $50 i am guessing.

Wow, it's on every network and every newspaper.

The anchor called it, a "marketing ploy gone very, very wrong."

Sounds like it went pretty right to me

My favorite quote about this:
"It had a very sinister appearance," Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley told reporters. "It had a battery behind it, and wires."

My physics teacher in high school was talking about how we'd have bomb scares, and how difficult it would really be to totally sweep a school of bombs. He had two ideas for bombs too, placed in the drop ceiling. They'd either have accelerometers (someone lifts up the panel to peek around) or IR motion sensors (someone lifts up an adjacent panel). Building and placing bombs is just so easy if you're careful and smart about it. But that's the fortunate thing - many criminals are quite stupid, or else they want glory, so they leave calling cards that tend to lead to their arrest. I've always said, the perfect serial killer is someone who is intelligent and selfless. Such a person would be virtually unstoppable. Don't leave a pattern, don't leave evidence, don't leave calling cards. Fortunately, most people don't do that.

Someone's been watching too much Dexter :Q.

I think this sounds hillarious... I only wish I lived in one of those cities so I could've retrieved one of the signs for myself!

I don't see any actual "how to make them" instructions on that page.

Someone needs to get mass-production lines up and running with those though IMO

Let's hope they never open up their radio or ipod. They would probably crap themselves in fear.

I really hope it was the Mooninites that were put up in lights.

And I really hope he's doing it as hard as he can.

What right does TNT have to use public infrastructure as billboards for a publicity stunt without at least notifying the local authorities of their intentions?

Ah, a snow day. Since classes were canceled, and my clients are closed; should I program or be a lazy bum and sit around all day smoking pot watching Aqua Teen?
Quite a conundrum.

They have no right, that's why two guys were arrested.

But that's the genius of guerilla marketing.
