Mortal Kombat is the only one I ever played consistently. I was the shit at that game for a while.

pinball, arkanoid, vs. baseball

although i liked gauntlet, cyberball and others, i detest the fact they were designed as quarter-munchers first, video games second.

edit:
i forgot moon patrol. good game, great name.

Anyone else know the trick in Galaga to get them to stop firing for the rest of the game??

Lol, no idea. I don't remember her at all.

I could have sworn I played Iceman in some game. :hmm:

I remember Dazzler from my comic book days. she was useless. ...well, slightly less useless than Jubilee. they had the same damn power. imagine that--as if Dazzler wasn't lame enough, they had to create fucking Jubilee for some ridiculous reason, with an even weaker talent for fireworks.

I use to enter and win Galaga tournaments as a pre- and young-teen.

Even at 40-something, I still can make a quarter last longer than I will ever again have time to stand in front of the machine.

About two years ago, I was in trial out of town and went to a fancy dinner at a Shakey's. After finishing my meal, I saw they had a Galaga machine. I played the first quarter until I had the high score, then let myself die out. Rinse and repeat until I had all the high scores. I played the last quarter until I had a high score double the second place score, died out and left.

Ah, the small pleasures of life.

MotionMan

For some reason, I am thinking of George Costanza and Frogger. :awe:

great story.

My fav arcade games have always been vertical scrolling shooters. However I never played all that many back in the arcade days. I've played much more since then on emulators. I also like old school Street Fighter like fighters like Marvel vs Capcom of course. As well as platformers and the true classics like centipede, asteroid, galiga and others of course!! Here are some that I like particularly, though this is by no means a complete list:

1941 Counter Attack - I may have something of a world record on this game: http://replay.marpirc.net/r/1941

The entire 19xx series actually
Sonic Wings 1-3
Air Buster
Vasara
R-Type series
Raiden series
Super Pang
Bubble Bobble
Puzzle Bobble
Dig Dug
Arkanoid
Golden Axe
Street Fighter II
Samurai Showdown series

Mk3 by far then Mk2. Then time crisis 2 for a little while. The mk games were always in the showcase cabinets at my arcade. On friday nights there would be a good size crowd of people around the machine. Was pretty fun.

Haha, I just came back to this thread to bring up Jubilee. How do they have two characters with the same lame-ass power? Weak.
