Just wondering if anyone knew of any good fighting sticks for PCs.

I found out about a "Mayfair" ("Mayfield"? I forget now) Universal Arcade Stick.
Edit: "Mayflash"
If you go to Amazon.com and type in Universal Arcade Stick, it comes up as the first hit.
It's $45, and works for PS3, PS2, and PC.

I took a chance and ordered two of them (for two-player MAME, etc.). I will post up once I recieve them as to their build quality.

Based on the price, I'm not expecting much (like real arcade parts), but what the heck.

I have some PS1/PS2 controller to USB adaptors too, to use PS1/PS2 fighting sticks, but I don't really have any good ones of those either.

If you are serious about the "arcade experience" I'd highly recommend building your own. There are plenty of tutorials on how to wire up a PS2 controller, and from there adding on the USB adapter is trivial. Plus you get to place the buttons exactly where you want them, get the size that you want, and you are sure of the build quality.

When I bought all my parts I picked up buttons and joystick for $30 about 8 years ago.

Real arcade parts (Sanwa, Seimitsu, ...) are worth their price.

I know how to solder, and have some woodworking experience from HS shop class, but I was hoping to just purchase some decent sticks without having to go all-out and build my own. Just less hassle that way.

If I was going all-out, I'd probably build my own MAME cab, but I have no place in my apt to put something that huge.

(I once owned an arcade cab, but I gave it away. It was too huge for the living room.)

Why do people make these threads after committing to buying something?

Anyway it's very likely that the sticks you bought suck and you should return them and buy something better after a bit of research.

Well, I got my sticks in today. They are half-way decent. The stick part clicks, so it has microswitches. The buttons don't click like micro-switches though. They aren't keyboard switches like the original Namco PSX arcade stick either. They're not too mushy though.

I have yet to try one for a fighting game, although I was playing Torneko's Last Hope on EPSXE, and it was working fine.

I would say get good joystick from HORI and use USB adaptor.

I almost bought an X Arcade stick for a mame cabinet that never came to be. They've got a 2 player model for $99 at the moment it looks like. They also sell the parts if you want to DIY.

X-Arcade's stuff doesn't have a good reputation for responsiveness.

These Mayflash sticks are pretty decent, all things considered, especially the price.

MvsC 2 on PS3 is good with them.

Sadly, KOF XIII does NOT work with them. It apparently doesn't work with a bunch of 3rd-party sticks, although my friend has one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Arcade-Fighter...6161293&sr=8-2

And it DOES work. So I dunno.

In my quest for better sticks, I just had a friend order me two of these:
http://www.amazon.com/PC-JoyStick-Co...ref=pd_cp_vg_1

Around the same price as the Mayflash sticks, but these have a "home" button, as well as L3 and R3, for the PS3.

My hope is that these were designed more for the PS3, so they might just work with KOF XIII. I will find out in a week or two (whenever it ships).
