You know, that is a good question. I've seen EVERY kind of joystick know to man for the PC EXCEPT an arcade style one. Waas up with that?!

I second that - the HotRod absolutely rocks.
Try playing Robotron, PacMan, Donkey Kong, Crazy Climber, Galaga... nothing else comes close.

Heh, or Killer Instinct in my case (Though I am a die-hard old-skool gamer )

There's also the OzSticks. But other than that there aren't too many sticks out for the PC. I use a PSX->PC USB joystick adapter since the PSX seems to have a good selection of arcade sticks.

All the PSX one's I've seen have the round-ball type stick that SUCKS bad, (Even though ASCII has other things that make the sticks awesome). Arcade control parts are easy to find & the plans to build you own are all over the place.

Hey I like those ball stick style joysticks, they also have bat style ones like the Interact Shadowblade.

Well, the ball-kind is similar to classic arcades, like Pac-man, where your hand had to be positioned on top of the joystick but ALL modern & most old arcades use the slender "bat" style because you can slip it between fingers (Thumb on top, pointer finger wrapped around & other fingers behind). This style is necessary for many games, but not all (Pac-Man, for instance), so I've always been a die-hard for genuine arcade controls. My fave console joystick was the ASCII Fighter Stick SN for the Super Nintendo (SG6 for the Genesis), but it's major flaw was the ball-style joystick. Ah well, at least genuine Hap-controls buttons/joysticks are used in the hot-Rod & they are easy to buy for home-made projects.

You're kidding right? Any First-Person Shooter is unplayable with digital directional sticks or pads! In fact, *NO ONE* should even consider playing any FPS game for the PC with anything but a keyboard & mouse. Try playing Quake3 on a Dreamcast & you'll see what I mean...

When I worked at KMart during high school (1984) they were throwing out an Atari store demo console. It looked like an arcade game. This thing had arcade joysticks and buttons, which I was able to salvage. Maybe they can be hacked into an arcade control panel to play with mame. Ideas?

I remember a while back looking at a web page of a guy who built an arcade style joystick. Had the 4 buttons and the ball topped controller. I'm not sure of the details but it looked kind of nice. And useful.

I just have the joysticks and the buttons. The joysticks are very heavy duty steel with plastic covers. They are made to withstand years of pimply mountain-dewed teens yanking on them to control pac man.
