Archos 6000 at BB for 189.99 after rebates... Anyway I can get it cheaper than that?

I was just checking out tomorrows ads for best buy and came across that player. I have been scanning the forums for this player for as cheap as I can get it. This is a decent deal and it includes a 50 buck MIR and a 10 IR. The cost before the rebate is 249.99. First, I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a BB only mail in rebate or is it a rebate straight from Archos? Second, I am very new to this (Finding deals on my own) so I was wondering if a couple of you guys could scout around and check to see if I can price match with somewhere else... to bring it down a bit. Right now this is a decent deal.. but I think it could be better. Thanks in advanced to anyone that helps out.... you have been great!

I own the Archos.. 6GB right? They have a newer model that records.

But have you considered these... more storage for just a bit more & no rebate risk:

That Kanguru looks to be the sort of thing I need. At least 20 gig and crude portable MP3 capability as well as storing data for my laptop, at $230 for 40 gig.

But... i don't think it runs on batteries and it looks like they make you pay $50 for a special USB or firewire cable. what a rip.

Anyone have any experience with this device or know of a better alternative?

I bought the Archos 6000 a few weeks back when BestBuy put it on sale for 169$. I returned it so that I could get the Archos MP3 Recorder from amazon (around 280$). both worked great if you used the IN-Systems driver and not the archos ones. Ive upgraded mine to 20 Gig. They can use any laptop hard drives that are 9.5mm thick. The largest available right now is 48 Gig. Opening it and upgrading does void your warranty though.

also, plan on replacing the batteries that come with it. It comes with two sets of NiMh batteries. Each set is 4 AA NiMH 1500. Lasts 8 hours, but after a while, degrades fast. I replaced mine with RadioShack 1600's and so far I still get 10 hrs per charge.

except that
1) you do NOT need a 3.5 to 5.25 HD adapter... all you need is the new hard disk and some small screwdrivers
2) you can partition/format the new hard disk AFTER you install it in the archos. It supports Fat32

It appears as a hard disk to windows/mac and all you have to do is grag and drop your MP3's into it. You can also use it to store any kind of data for transfer. It comes with musicmatch plus license key... never used it though.

I got a Creative Nomad Jukebox (6GB), factory refurbished, for only 139.99 at Outpost.com. It looks new to me, comes with headphones, USB cable, 2 sets of NiMH rechargeables (they recharge in the unit when it is plugged in). I thought it was a very good deal, and am quite pleased with the purchase.

I would highly recommend reading the FAQ at www.funmp3players.com, it'll save you a lot of grief. I had the spring issue, and there are a bunch of things they don't tell you in the manual, like holding down on and hitting + and - changes the volume.

i bought this player for $160-170 around november of last yr at best buy...



edit: though if your in the market for a HD player.... wouldnt it be better to wait until the Rio Riot, Creative Nomad 3, and all the other brand spanking new players come out, so you will both more choice, and the chance for the older players such as this one to drop their prices?
