Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV. No pics of them installed yet as I'm waiting on a Fractal Design Define XL R2, which should be here tomorrow. My current case isn't big enough :lol:

I have to say this is the easiest aftermarket cooler I have ever installed. No awkward angles to fiddle with, simply install the thermal tape on the back of the card, attach the screws to the front heatsink, feed front heatsink through the card, attach back plate, tighten down, secure clamps to side of card, and done.

With one card installed at GPU at 1270MHz core, Mem not overclocked I'm getting 26C idle (down from 34C) and 56C load (Down from 92C). Previous load temps were with the card at 1170MHz core, any higher and it would crash and I had to have the fan at 100%, very loud, though this was with 2 cards in SLI, will have to wait till tomorrow to see if I can achieve 1270MHz in SLI.

The main reason for me doing this is the noise at load with 2 780 Ti's overclocked is a little annoying to say the least. I have open-ear headphones and I can hear the cards while I'm gaming. Can't here the fans on this even at 100%.

yeah and with summer right around the corner, there's no way I would be able to maintain the overclock I had on the cards with the stock coolers. Plus 92C, while within the limits for the 780 Ti, I still feel is way too hot. 56C is awesome, a 36C difference

With the backplate on -- does this thing take up 4 slots? I'm reading that you need at least 3 slots -- this looks like 3 1/2!

That's appears to be close to 5 slots, based on the dimensions of the DVI port.

4 Slots. fyi the screw missing on the top card on the right clamp is just so I know which card is which haha. I'll put the screw back when they are both installed.

The clamps are supposed to hold a bracket to support the card, however you can't use SLI with the bracket installed as it blocks the connector.

Holy cow.

I wonder... can you run the bottom card's fans in reverse, so both cards can blow air away from each other? There seems to be enough space underneath the cooler to support this airflow.

290s don't need an extra connector... hmm, I'm tempted to try this on my main gaming rig...

I like the backplate/heatsink on this newer version, looks very sharp. Is there any VRM or VRAM cooling? From your pictures I don't see any. Since the fans on these accelero's spin so low even @ 100% it's hard for them to actively cool the vrm. I would be interested to see your final overclocks for both cards. From experience I will say the top card gets starved for air with the bottom card being right below it, but your motherboard looks to have an extra slot of spacing vs. what I have, so it could work out well? I do notice the backplate/heatsink on the back of the card takes up about a slot, so it's gonna be real tight fit.

With silent (presumably) cards like that you could take a page from the mining playbook and pop in a couple risers and space them nicely even with a small motherboard space. Of course that depends on your view of cosmetics etc. but I'm currently pleased with some open air/bench rigs and think they can be pretty stylish too. (Of course a case can look good without effort)

my motherboard allows me to install the cards so there should be enough room. Last night I added some heatsinks on to the vrms.

Clocked the cards to 1240MHz, 7GHz mem. Top card tops out at 68C, bottom 57C. :drool:

Looking good :thumbsup: Your temps are very good as well. I guess that extra slot spacing really helps.


I couldn't maintain decent temps overclocked to 1150/1650 on my 7950 CFX setup -

I run an accelero xtreme III on my reference msi 290, its great! Whisper quiet even at 100%.
