The freezer 64 and 7 pro's are actually always $21/$22 shipped. This isnt anything out of the norm. They just but free shipping on the normal link for it, but theres always been a special way of getting free shipping on them. Anyhow just fyi.

What's that special way?

The freezer is/was tempting, though I got a Thermaltake Ultra 120 Extreme @ Newegg
instead for one system, though maybe the freezer would be good for replacing the
AMD HSF in my old one... hmm..

It says "All AMD X2 and 64 processors" Does that mean it fits 939 and AM2?

I should go to manufacturer's website but im lazy-

How is this for an attempt at a silent PC with a 4400+ vs. an Ultra-90? If the ultra-90 is better, anyone have suggestions on a fan to bundle it with? Really looking for a decent cheap silent (or really quiet at the least,) solution.

My 64 Pro's from Last September have copper heat pipes, that is not new

All that is new (since Jan) is the 4 pin MB Fan header

Yes, it fits all ..

I can confirm this; I had one installed on a 939 board then bought another for an AM2 rig. It most definitely fits both (though I can't 100% say it works for 754, I would bet it does as it says "All AMD 64 processors")

According to Frostytech, the ultra 90 is better.

For silence, I love Nexus fans, but these Zalmans will work well too at a much lower price.

I've got the fan at 80% on the 775 version to be quiet enough. At 100%, though, the temp drops another 3-4º C.

With the F10 BIOS for ma DS3 rev 3.3, I'm sitting at 30-50º C from idle to Orthos (2h+) load. With the F11 BIOS, the tJunction (I think, not the core) is 10º C higher, but the cores remained the same. It's sitting atop an E4300 overclocked 50% to 2.7 GHz. Stock voltage on the processor. With the stock fan and clock (1.8 GHz), I went from 30-50º C idle to Orthos (~1h) load.

Ambient has been pretty consistent throughout both clocks and heat sinks. I'd say it's a good cooler, just have a way to keep it from spinning as fast as it can. Otherwise, too loud in my P180B. Course, the thing's no more than half a meter away.

I use the AMD heatpipe with the thermistor shorted. Check out the ranking at Frosty Tech with the fan on high. Number 3 on the list. Not bad. The Arctic Cooling is quieter on high though.

can anyone discuss the levels of nosie this thing produces? I have a Big Typhoon and this thing produces absolutely NO sound unless i put my ear up to it....

I'm thinking of using this for a person who wants maximum quietness, and this sure beats at 50 dollar TT Big Typhoon...but does the fan ever get noisy, or should I stick with the Big Typhoon since you really can't make up for a 120mm fan so easily.

used link in first post, $19.05 but checked shipping, they want $8.40 shipping? Did I miss something here?

BTW, I have one of these on my 3500 breadboard machine, it's very nearly silent that way but never had it in a case.

Ya the free shipping seems to have gone sadly, just today my a64 cooler started making a whining noise that I heard from 4 rooms away. I have shut her down but seriously need a cooler and paying 8 dollars in shipping on a 19 dollar item seems like highway robbery.

Yeah, they have had free shipping on that thing for like the past 2 months. Just ended today.

Anyhow, you have to realize how much heatsinks weigh, that is why it is $8.00..... I dont see how that is highway robbery.... If you have ever shipped a heatsink to someone, much of the time its fairly expensive because of the weight.

Anyhow, give it some time, they bring the free shipping thing back on and off all the time.

I think it's pretty quiet IF your motherboard can support 4-pin PWM or have some other way to throttle down the fan. I have fairly new build which does, and it's very quiet as it spins the fan @ 950rpms. But I have very good hearing, and I can hear ants walk. :b

If you can't spin it down, then the fan spin @ around 2000 rpm, which is a little bit loud.

The top/max fan speed is like 2400RPM. I have a fairly quiet case (P180) but I can sort of hear it at that speed.

Any software app such as speedfan works great at throttling down the fan speed. It shouldnt be an issue. Fairly easy to lower the speed.

Just to let everyone know, as I stated would happen, they now have free shipping again on both the 64 and 7 pro's. Also the 7 pro is slightly cheaper now.
