Arctic Cooling + 9800se Problem

Hi i just got a VGA Silencer Rev 3 from Arctic cooling for a Radeon 9800se

i have an Xpertvision 9800se soft moded with omega drivers to a 9800 pro

well i used to overclock my core/mem to 395/320 with stock cooling. (default is 380/300)

and it used to work fine.

Now i just bought this beast of a heatsink..applied it to my card, now i cannot even get an overclock above 385 for my core without massic defects in the picture on games and stuff, i've been told its overheating, im kinda boggled here, this $35AUD cooler i bought is worse than the stock $2 job the card came with .......

Any ideas please guys?

It can be a bit time consuming, but take 'er back apart and check to see if the heatsink is mating properly with the GPU core. A common issue is the squar shim around the core causes heatsinks to make poor contact (or sometimes none at all) with the core. This was supposed to be fixed in the 9800 cards though (it was a definite issue with 9700/9500 cards). If the heatsink didn't catch much grease when you take it off, it could be making poor contact. You might have to sand down the shim or remove it altogether.
