Vantec Iceberg or the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer?

Would both fit an 9600XT retail?

The Arctic Cooling by all rights should be quieter. Arctic Cooling 1200/2400 rpm fan vs. the Vantec 6000 rpm fan.

The Compatability List says a new version release in February 2004 to support the 9600 (Pro, XT) boards.

This is a very good cooler, the best yet as far as you can just "buy" and not strapping on a CPU heatsink.

Im a mod @ the xtremesystems.org overclocking and cooling fourm. Quieter than the stock ATI.

It has a fan.

-fans make more noise than a heat pipe
-fans will eventually die
-fans collect dust

That heatpipe actually sucks without a case fan blowing on it. Turn off the fans in your case and see how hot it gets. You will not here this fan over a case fan.

The heatpipe conduts the heat to the otherside. And upon my testing, using 2 thermisistors on each side plate, it actually does a real crappy job and mostly for looks or whatever. The thermaltake giant 2 at least has a fan built in, as does the new zalmans.

No airflow=heatproblem.

This is quieter than than the stock solution, and better cooling than a zalman. That's what this thread is about. And it being on sale and that you can finally purchase them. Until you own one. Dont comment about it.

Thanks for the feedback! We'll give it a shot when available, wish ATI wasn't that cheap with their fan though

Just got it today and installed it immediately. I installed it on a 9800 pro, took about 5 minutes. It's a fair amount quieter than the stock ATI fan. I "mostly" hear white noise now with a Papst 12dBA intake and exhaust, a panaflo l1a on the heatsink, and a Zalman PSU. I'm sure this baby will drop a few degrees on the case temps also. Pretty decent cooler IMO.

Edit: hmmm it may be even too quiet....now I can hear my 2 200Gb hard drives when they are being accessed :frown:

I guess I should take all the fans out of my computer and hope for the best :disgust:

Anyway. I got the Arctic Cooling VGA silencer. It's a 100% improvement over the Zalman heatpipe I had.
I have a near silent computer and I can't hear this thing. Dropped temps in my case and I can o/c my 9800 higher.
