It boils down to this: The VGA Silencer is $22 + S&H. The ZM80C is $29 + S&H + another $6 for the extra fan. The performance of the VGA Silencer is at least on par with an actively cooled ZM80C, so @ $22 it's a steal.

The Zalman isn't hard to install. It just takes a little time is all. I installed one watching ER a few weeks ago and I'd probably be faster at it the second time around. If I wouldn't have just purchased the Zalman, I might've bitten on this one. Looks decent if the fan is really "silent" in the slower mode.

Does anyone know how noisy they are with the fan set to low? I love the idea of the Zalman because it's fanless (silent). I don't overclock my cards, so a passive hs is fine for me. If you can't hear the fan on this thing in the low speed setting, I might be interested in trying one though.

That's the problem. I HATE the noise of the cheap stock fans on video cards. That's why I went with the Zalman. The VGA Silencer would have to be close to silent on the slower fan mode for me to consider it.

It is. Low rpm mode is 1200 rpm. I had a Zalman ZM80A and prefer this one. It directly removes the GPU heat from the case instead of just radiating it like the Zalman.

I Like everything about the Zalman except the heat it gives off.
Really heats up my small HTPC case.
This looks like it would be a much cooler albeit noisier solution.

Thanks a lot OP! I was about to go get the Zalman ZM80C but that thing weighs as much as a brick! I can still get it for someone if they want it for the price I'm paying plus shipping ($25 + $4-6). I have a full tube of AS5 as well if anyone wants that for $12 shipped. Woops! This isn't the FS/FT forums...
