Ok , here is the deal, bought it brand new... put it on my 9700Pro.. hour later.. poof, no 3d...only 2d... artifacts... i said... what the heck is going on... noticed no air comming out the back of the cooler... hmmmm .. the dang fan is spinning backwards ??

so that is what i am thinking... someone else i have talked to had the same problem, the fan was spinning counterclockwise....it looks as though it should spin clockwise...

any one using one of these coolers.. and can they tell me if the fan is spinning clockwise (as the blades would suggest it should) or counterclockwise.....

thank you in advance....

I have 2 of these, one on a 9700Pro and 9800Pro and air definately blows out the back.

Off the top of my head and not likely done but. Did you plug the AC fan into the Vid Card header ? was it plugged in backwards.

it was plugged in correctly.. i just retried for a few seconds on my 9800 Pro.. unplugged it's stock fan, plugged in the vga cooler... and the fan spun counterclockwise... sucking air in from the HS and blowing out where the fan is.... oddd....

Regardless of which direction the fan spins, as long as it spins, the air is going to go out the back because of centrifuge.

If this is the cooler you have, it is supposed to turn counter clockwise.

Are you sure the heat sink is seated properly on the GPU and is not touching a capacitor or any other component of the card?

Edit:
Don't get me wrong! I am not saying that the direction is not important. I am just saying that air is always going to go out. You have to hold a Kleenex at the back to see it. Holding your hand near the fan is not going to tell you anything since you are only going to feel the turbulence.
Also, changing the polarity of the motor does not always change the direction.

well, i had one on a 9700 Pro i had at one time (not the one that died) and it blew out the back pretty good... you could feel it + the heat...

that is the one i have, but if it ran counter clockwise, it just doesn't look like it would push much air as the blades are cupped like it's supposed to turn clockwise... i felt more air blowing down off the fan then i did going out the back... if i felt any air at all... it's pretty easy to install, so i really don't see it hitting any capacitors etc... all i know was my card worked fine until i put that on it.. and it died about 1 hour later... and the HS was pretty hot, so i know not much air was going over it...

Like I said, if the cooler is the one I linked to, it is supposed to turn counter clockwise since it would send more air out that way.

yeah, i guess your right... i looked at it for awhile, spinning the fan and checking the wires... and i guess, running counterclockwise, it put out more air out the back... i put a kleenex under the fan and it sucked it up... even though it feels like it is blowing out... (odd)... i have it on now, let's hope my 9800 doesn't die... not sure why the 9700 did....

ran a cple benches, still stable..

thanks for your response...

It is always a good idea to clean the GPU and sink with alcohol and then add a very small amount of thermal paste and install. Then, remove and inspect. Make sure that the paste is spread showing a good contact. If the paste is not spread, it means that something is in the way not allowing the sink to be seated properly.

If everything is OK, clean with alcohol again and apply paste and install.

yeah, it worked out good this time.. i rechecked it severel times on the 9700 Pro... at the first sign of artifacts.. i pulled it off, it was spread evenly (AS5) , i really don't know what happend to the 9700Pro.. so far this card has had no problems with the cooler...
