I'm not sure how hot of a deal this is, but I was searching around for some AS2, and most places sold it for around $9 + about $5 shipping, (3g tube) I got it for $8.50 with free shipping (via USPS snailmail) from HighSpeedPC. The resseler rating is good, and my experience was a good one. Has anyone seen this for better?

I bought some from them as well. Aside from a nasty glitch (website sent me EIGHT order confirmations!), all looks to be good. Should arrive in the next day or two.

If you look closely you will see that the tubes they are selling are only (3 gm) 1/2 the size of what other retailers are selling (6.5)

I've only seen AS2 in 3g tubes. The AS1 always came in the big 6.5g tube, which I personally don't need that much Arctic Silver. It's about the same price per gram, but since it comes in a smaller tube = lower price = good for me cause I don't need that much.

Inflow Direct is selling the AS2 for $8.50 too, they also have the Vantec FCE-62540D HSF for only $19.99(on sale till the end of Feb). Don't know how much shipping is though.

how much better is this than the thermal pad provided on a hsf?...

from the website:
Remove any thermal pads or other interface material from the heatsink before applying the Arctic Silver.

for example: i'm putting together a computer and have a 1gig tbird and a golden orb hsf. would it be worth it to buy this and remove the thermal pad from my hsf? and how much better would that be?
any help is apprieciated. thanks.

brianvfv,

The only thing worse than thermal pads is nothing at all. Chuck it and go for the Artic Silver II.

i have some radioshack thermal grease left over from my celeron overclocking days.
Is this stuff good enough or does arctic silver make a big difference?

i highly recommend buying from highspeedpc.com (scott), he's a great guy.
i purchased a Artic Silver from him and it never arrived. he immediately sent
a replacement and the orginal order that got lost arrived the next following day.
unfortunately, he forgot to write down my zip code on the package. i emailed him
back with a digital shot of the package. he apologized and told me to keep the
replacement artic silver for free. what a great guy!!

Thermal tape is almost always measurably worse than any thermal pad, grease, or glue.

Scott and HighspeedPC is top notch. I have had 2 orders without a single hitch. He performs business is a way that you wish everyone did. I just wished they sold more computer stuff. I'd buy from him exclusively!

I saw the deal at Everything Connected, but couldn't find any reseller rating info on em. HighSpeedPC seems to be the way to go

brianfv, if I were you I'd scrap the golden orb hsf and at least go for the chrome orb, unless you like the sound of CRUNCH as you install your hsf onto your brand new 1GHZ Tbird. (The golden orbs are notorious for damaging Socket A cpu's)
