Seems pretty hot, most that I have seen are 20-25 bucks.

1 Arctic VGA Silencer Rev 3 13.95
1 Zalman MB Northbridge Chipset HS ZM-NB47J 6.95
1 pcToys Speed Case Thumb Screw SILVER (4) retail package 0.95
Subtotal: 21.85
Shipping: 7.81*
Tax: 0.00
Total: 29.66

Shipping could be better, but costs about the same to ship one from newegg and they are more expensive right now.

Thanks for the heads up.

these are decent products. For $10-15, its worth its cost. The ones specifically designed for one model/series (like ATI silencer 3/4/5) looks like it performs better than these, but they cost a lot more. Have this on a 9800Pro and it works fine. My only gripe is that i wished the fan pushed more air, as i could barely feel it exhausted out the rear.

I bought one of these in June, its dead now. I posted about it in the cases & cooling forum and a couple other people stepped forward and said that they had similar experiences. Except that their fan gave no warning when it went out, and fried their video card with it. Mine has been buzzing for a while, I got rid of it before it went 100% kaput. Just an FYI to anyone considering it.

I have the NV silencer 3 (for my 5900XT) and don't like it much. Note that they have two parts named "silencer 3", the "VGA silencer 3" is the one here and the "NV silencer 3" is for the 5900XT.

It is completely quiet when idle but actually very loud when the 3D card is under load. And the idle sound (2D) only is only completely quiet when the case is closed, the moment I close the case it always whines.

It also takes up slightly more than 1 extra PCI slot at the rear end. If you want to put in a long PCI card in the second PCI slot that comes into contact with the plastic casing of the silencer and even has to be bend a little. The thick area around the fan invades that PCI slot space a little.

I also didn't like that the tube of thermal paste was very barely sufficient to cover the main chip and the RAM.

Overall I gained a negative impression on Arctic cooling from this and I am waiting for Zalman to do their 6800 Ultra part (not available yet). And I got that passive Zalman cooler for my 5900XT.

I think the VGA Silencers had a high/low switch, and the newer NV/ATI Silencers are thermally controlled. Are both types loud & unreliable?

I have one on 9500 Pro. Quiet and works well. Wish they were available for 6600GT. Will any third party cooler fit 6600GT?

I don't have a switch, it is clearly temperature-controlled.

As I said it works in that it shuts the PC up when idle but there is no silencing at all when things get in motion. Keep in mind my environment is very quiet otherwise, other people would rate the full-rpm noise as nothing special. But I do.

I think the main advantage here is that the NV silencer gets the air from the GPU, including the GPU's RAM, directly out of the case. That is a huge advantage for the rest of the system.

I don't have any reliability problems, but this product is not for me. It is a power thing, not a silencing thing.

These are quiet, I did a review for my old tech site back in the day, they're good for OC'ing and help keep system temps real low. The price ain't bad, but ain't good either, I payed 9.99$ plus shipping for mine.

Does this VGA silencer also cool down the memory chips? Also how does this compare to the ATI Silencer model?

The "NVSilencer 3" does, don't know about the "VGA silencer 3".

Mine buzzed for awhile and went completely out too. Not impressed with this thing at all.

Anyone recall somewhere where it tells you what each REV of the silencer works for what graphic card? I have a Rev 2 and a Rev 3. Thanks....

I've got one of these on my 9800 flashed to XT and it works great. I love that there is a high/low switch. On low it is very quiet, and on high I can definatelly feel the hot air being pushed out of the case (still not loud enough to overpower my other fans).

One note, I'm using a MSI K8N Neo platinim, and when I installed my new Zalman 7000 I didn't even think to check the clearance with my Arctic VGA Silencer, it ended up fitting, but the two components do actually touch each other rather snuggly. Another milimeter and one of the two would have had to go.
