DAMN! raised the price... go figure.

Hopefully, by the time I can afford a good giga switch/router, the prices for the NICs will have come BACK down to that level

I use NetGear.. they are the best.

However.. they are one of the worst as far as packaging is concerned.. sheesh, Altho linksys not so hot, NetGear could take some cues on how to properly package a product from them

I actually have a linksys and a netgear card. I bought the linksys for my old pos comp to use in college and it didn't support pci2.1, so I grabbed a net gear one. Now I'm using the linksys one on my new comp. I've had no problems with either card. Go for the linksys.

RossMAN: Wireless gigabit already a reality.

Checkout Optical Crossing
2.5gigabit/sec wireless transceiver.

I know of this company becuase their parent company MRV also owns my father's company.

Its basically targeted towards metro areas where bringing in fiber is too expensive. So they developed 'wireless' fiber. Read about it. Invest in it if you got the cash cuz Fiber technology is the future!

<< This one is all ya need >>

I would definitly not recommend the DFE-530 TX+, I've had some nasty experiences with this card. Random reboots, fried a DSL modem, and I suspect it of some other issues. This was on multiple computers and multiple NICs too. I'm quite happy with my Intel NIC now.

I have a Big Vote AGAINST Linksys..... If you OC Yer PCI clock they wont work right & Aside from that I have had 2 of there hubs go out on me in the last year... I am Happy Using Netgear Now. I Also would sudgest kingston for a cheap NIC of high quality...

my 3com with 3x processor is a great NIC.

I also have a Netgear cheapo $15 card in my other computer, but it has worked good so far.

i have these 3, Netgear FA310TX, Linksys LNE100TX and 3COM 3C905-TX and I really can't tell the difference between them. Of course I'm not a power user, so I wouldn't really be able to tell. They all have served their purpose wonderfully. I picked each of them up for $20.

I second the Linksys LNE100TX, I've run several of them on my network for the past year or two and they've all performed flawlessly, drivers and all.

I've used several different NIC's and they all work pretty well for me. Here's a little comparison that I wrote a while ago comparing 11 NIC's. Network Card Roundup There ARE differences between the different cards.

only thing i know is that the cheap-o-ones died after a year of use (both of them) and the name brands i had are still kickin strong(Netgear, and Linksys). so if you want stability always get name brand for cheap, not cheap brand for cheap.

i think i saw NIC comparison somewhere i'll find it and post it here.

Stay FAR AWAY from Linksys, I've had 3 out of 4 fail.. I use SMC EZ.generics, but will look for Netgrears next time I need a good NIC.

#Coms are good, just way too expensive.
