I choose to stay at home and watch tv/movies and play games. Others use that free time to go to bars/clubs. Others are obsessed with sports. Others are always working out/exercising. 5 years from now, can any of them look back and say yeah, that was a productive way to spend that time of my life? Probably not, but if you enjoy it while you are doing it, thats all that really matters.

most hobbies other than gaming and watching tv enrich you as a person in some way.

Please elaborate. Besides the health benefits you get from physical activities, it seems like most hobbies are just as meaningless as gaming.

How about you list some of your hobbies and how they enrich you?

My definition of a loser? I have many, but one of them includes listening to 50 Cent in my free time, then logging into Anandtech and putting it in my sig.

Man, you changed your sig... quick question, what compelled you to place the wise words of an AT Mod above the wise words of 50 Cent? hehe

If someone plays video games for 4 hours per day they are an addict or loser that will go postal at any moment.

:disgust: :disgust: :disgust: :disgust:

because the average tv user doesnt say "Damhn I like t0ta77y p000ned that guy" in real life

Yeah, they say intellectually stimulating stuff like "Oh my god did you like see the last episode of American idol? Simon was like blah blah blah blah blah! And survivor blah blah blah Lost, the show about nothing on an island blah blah blah I like to look at pretty people and sit on the couch blah blah"

I got a double quote from Gig, that deserves honorable mention.

Yes, anyone who listens to 50 Cent is a LOSER. Anyone who listens to Led Zeppelin is a LOSER. Anyone who listens to Eric Clapton is a LOSER. Anyone who listens to Tim McGraw is a LOSER. Anyone who listens to Sarah McLachlan is a LOSER. Anyone who listens to Blink182 is a LOSER. Did I miss any genre's? Oh, and if you listen to Mozart you're a LOSER.

Class is in session. Gigapet, get out your notebook, this won't be the only lesson you learn.

As an aside, sometimes I wish I could sit down and have dinner with Gigapet's parents.
Some good pwnage in this thread.

I did. However your definition of a loser is based on whether or not a person's existence directly benefits you.

I'm glad you feel that you improve the lives of those around you, I'm sure they're all winners because of it.

So the 20 hour break point is what determines gigapet sanctioned loser status?

The main problem with this thread is you have no clear definition of what it is exactly your ranting about. You won't nail down a definition of what makes them a loser and waffle when people attempt extrapolate one from your weakly defined complaint.

So you think half of AT are losers that you would need to be paid to hang out with...meh I guess? I mean, I don't exactly think there are gamers lining up outside your door begging you to grace them with your presence so I think we've come to a mutually benefitial conclusion here. You can go home and spend 19.5 hours a week carefully sorting people you know into different loser status folders and they'll go home and play some game for 20.5 hours a week and everyone can not give a sh|t!

no lets get serious its not a hobby when your playing 20 hours a week or more. what hobbies do people do at a non professional level for 20 hours a week or more i mean even sports i dont know anyone that plays a sport non professionally more than 15 hours a week....maybe retired men playing golf but god they are retired they've already put in their time.

I never said anything about AT. I never met anyone from here nor do i plan on it. My opinion was based on real life experience nothing else. If I am not allowed to base my opinions on real life experience I suppose I'm should base them off of my internet experiences or fictional gaming characterss quest experiences or something .....i just dunno about you guys sometimes.

Earlier in this thread you said:

you dont fit the profile for who I am talking about. 10 hours a week / 7 days = < 2 hours a day = not the person this poll is directed towards.

kthxbye
So according to you, if someone spends < 2 hours/day on "there hobbie", then they're not a loser. But if they spend < 3 hours/day (2.85 hours/day or 20 hours a week to be exact) they're a "loser".

Hence, someone could spend 2.71 hours/day on a hobby a week (19 hours), but once they hit 2.85, they officially reach Gigapet "loser" status.

Rich.

I admit that I'm probably a 'loser' by standard definitions... I work upwards of 13 hours a day and by the time I get home, I have no energy to do anything other than sit back and beat the crap out of some CS players or Quake3 players For me, it's a great stress reliever, I play for an hour or two and afterwards I just feel better -- I can't explain that. I have time on weekends once in a while where I try to get out a bit, and Sundays I do all of my chores (laundry, wash the cars, etc).

I need to win the lotto I think... then maybe I'll have more time to play CS errm I mean go out more
