The idle power consumption is also lower in Haswell compared to Ivy Bridge. (Very useful for mobile, but I am not sure how useful for desktop)

Home servers.

Hugely important for DVR HTPCs as well.

Idle power consumption is the driving reason why I'm so interested in the 1037U - it's at just the right balance of power and performance.

Gigabyte has a new 1037U motherboard! Finally, a fanless motherboard with a substantial heatsink!! (I think this is actually the first non-industrial fanless 1037U motherboard?)

GA-C1037UN-EU

More pictures are trickling out.

Yep, that's an IDE connector. It's interesting that they gave this one an eSATA connector too though.

Look at how they had to shape the heatsink to clear the other components on the motherboard!

Here's my "contribution"

Although not the Celeron 1037U (1.8GHz Ivy), this Celeron 1007U (1.5GHz Ivy) comes with 2GB DDR3.
And 320GB HDD.
And a built-in SD card reader.
And a built-in keyboard/trackpad.
And a removable 3000mAh battery.
And a 11.6" screen.
Wait a sec..

Yes, its a borderline "netbook"!

For $200!!

Has 1 x USB 3.0 and 2 x USB 2.0's, hook up w/ wireless KB/mouse and attach to back of TV via HDMI out?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834231118

edit: if you're having trouble w/ AT's redirect, here's the item # on newegg: N82E16834231118

Battery is NOT removable.

The charger is weak, too. It's been 5 hours of using the laptop, while plugged in, and it's only 2/3 charged. Says it will last 2 hours, so figure it will last 3 hours on a full charge. I'm guessing that to fully charge the battery, you have to shut the laptop down.

Edit: Charger says 19v 1.75A.

I was wondering about that... the charger looked *really* small in the picture. What's the rating on it?

Sorry about that - I just assumed that most netbooks had removable batteries

Mine's still coming, still debating on whether I should keep it or not...

In case anyone wanted a "bigger" laptop:

1037U in a 15.6" laptop package for $230. Offer for a free Skullcandy over-the-ear headphones ($60 value) too!

Link is broken for me, but here it is--->

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/satellit...&skuId=1689021

P.S. I like that it includes Windows 8 for that price along with the increased RAM,larger HDD and 1037U processor. It also has an optical drive and 6 cell battery (Not sure if removable)

Oh yeah, and these headphones look pretty nice too--->http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....at315200050006

Too bad no usb 3.0 like the earlier 1007U laptop you linked.

Overall, a very nice find AkumaX!

Update:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138368

The Biostar Celeron 847 now carries a 15% discount code. (ends 11/4) This brings price to ~$55 with free shipping.

Is there anyway we can tell how many are left in stock? (EDIT: I Just checked by adding 100 to my cart. ...Newegg shows 25 left)

They were at 112 a month ago, so they either returned some stock or they're selling pretty quickly now! 11/4 is next Monday - if they sell enough, could the Biostar come as soon as next week? Any bets?

20 left now. (BIOSTAR NM70I-847)

Just checked, last day for the promo code and 11 left.

I wonder if we are going to see a blow out sale coming up for those last units (if they don't sell out with the current promo code) in an attempt to make way for the Biostar 1037U?

Thanks for fixing the links!

Supports up to 16GB of ram, if anyone's REELY interested lol

on a different note, i didn't know Staples carried this kind of stuff:

http://www.staples.com/CPUs-Processo...CL167348?sby=1
-$1 less than newegg haha

kinda tempting since I have a $25 off $75 that expires today...

Just nine left now. Not sure which time zone Newegg runs in, but however you look at it, the deal doesn't have much time left.

Even so, they have the inventory down to single digits now. They could probably launch the 1037U board now at any time, and still continue to sell the 847s slowly if there was enough of a price difference between them.

Yeah, I noticed some low end LGA Celerons (G1610 and G1620) in that link for $46.49. That is actually cheaper than Newegg by a few dollars and only ~$3 more than Amazon. Surprising for Staples!

P.S. Staples also has a Zotac 1007U Mini-ITX board for $93.49 --->http://www.staples.com/Zotac-NM70ITX...duct_IM1RA2784 (NM70 chipset, but it does have usb 3.0). With $25 coupon that would be $68.49 with free shipping.

EDIT: It appears Newegg also sells the 1007U Zotac board, but it is classified under "Intel boards" rather than "embedded solutions"--->http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813500088 ($88.99 plus $7.56 shipping)

Amazon also has it for sale---->http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DXFDUS8/...xtension-kb-20 ($95.12 plus $6.48 shipping)

Do we know for a fact that newegg is the only retailer holding stock on the 847's? I mean maybe they are I haven't looked for them anywhere else...just curious if we know that is what biostar is waiting on?

Here's another option I've been considering...

You could pair the Foxconn D70S-P (~$80, various vendors) with the Mini-Box M350 enclosure kit ($69, free shipping). This kit has the M350 case which isn't exactly striking visually, but is very small, and well ventilated. It also comes with an 80W PicoPSU and a 60W AC power brick.

The end result would be a nice small Mini-ITX 1037u system, with the DC power input and the power brick, for right around the $150 mark. It still would need RAM and a SSD/HD, so I'm not sure if it can beat the price of the baseline T30, but it could be made with parts available in the US and would have a LOT more expansion opportunities than either the T30 or the comparably priced BRIX. The M350 can hold two 2.5" drives, and the PicoPSU would easily power them. Others have reported using a single 3.5" drive, although you have to make your own mountings for it.

At the time when I received that reply from Biostar, several other retailers had them (including a few Amazon sellers), but nobody had any quantities over a dozen or so (compared to Newegg's 100+). So there could certainly still be other sellers that have them. But beyond that, I don't have any idea what Biostar's threshold is, or what they're actually waiting for.

If they wait *too* long, there will be a lot more competition in the 1037U market!

Also, I think it would be a huge mistake for them to miss the mid and late November / Black Friday shopping season. So I think they need to get something out soon for that, or a lot of their potential buyers will have already bought something else that was on sale.

You beat me on ECS I2, just saw it and you already posted it

This has better layout than the biostar board, but how come the one with one sodimm is more expensive than i2 version, they seem to be exactly the same in specifications.

Hmmm.. conflicting reports that the I2 is actually a Celeron 847...

Amazon has it listed as a 1037 as well.

ECS's website explains - apparently they're recycling model numbers with different CPU versions. (See the CPU tab here.) So there is an NM70-I2 with a C847, and an NM70-I2 with a 1037. (And an 807, looks like.)

So for ECS, at least, you'll have to trust resellers to make sure they're selling you the product they think they are.

Yeah, I can't figure that out either. Same processor, same chipset, same ethernet, same audio, same I/O connectors... why do these two separate but so similar products exist??

I saw that too. The detailed picture of the NM70-I2(1.0) even labels the CPU as the 847. And there are reviews going back to 7/17/2013, which was well before the 1037U version was out.

I think the problem is that ECS re-used the same motherboard name (NM70-I2) for multiple models with different CPUs (Celeron 847, 807, and 1037U). It looks like Newegg simply kept the same listing, but at some point started shipping 1037U systems to people who had ordered the 847 version, and then just recently changed the description to indicate that it was now the 1037U version that would be shipped.

You beat me to it.

Another thing I noticed is that both of these motherboards went straight to the low end of the price range. One is $5 less than the Foxconn (previously the least expensive available anywhere), and one is only $5 more. So there are now three motherboards in the $80-or-less price bracket.

Given that both of these ECS boards have the full-size PCI-Express slot, one of the weaknesses of the Foxconn, this will make things a lot harder for Biostar if they wanted to price their 1037U board in a higher price bracket.

I have the Celeron 847 version of the NM70-I in my compact mac conversion.

Not that the old compact macs were known for airflow, but it's a little bit too happy running hot - it's idling at 64C right now, and the CPU and chassis fan are both off.

But it's worked without a hitch for a few months now, running pretty much 24/7. (I took it to work and use it as my stereo and USB drive cloner.) So I can definitely recommend ECS boards.
