Are Asians more prone to suicide?

I did watch a documentary on deppression in teenagers.

Which is what most of you are probably familiar or are talking about. Anyhow, the doc says that it is extremely tough to diagnose depression in teens, as alot of the behaviors might be transient. It is extremely important that families are closely knited and talk to each other. The communication will help when times are difficult. However also agree that sometimes people work better under pressure, but not neccessary healthier.

Considering all factors, (religion, pressure, family unit, depression, health condition ect) I would still not generalise any group of people with certain tendencies.

As a point of rule, I always make it a point not to stereotype any group of people.

But I also make it a point to relax, and not jump on to stereotyping people to prevent myself from stereotyping people stereotypes.

You realize that that's pretty rare. Only like 1 out of 5,000 species of mantis does it every time. The others do it very rarely.

Also to add to this discussion.

There are alot of people spanning different culture, time, space, race, philosophical ideas, religion ect that also understand the meaning of taking things easy.

Missing promotion, not getting A in test, even failing in test and various possible stress condition is handled differently by different people.

I find that a person who feels bad, will try to escape. More often then not, easy way does not mean "Its alright to be flipping burgers all your life" (at the same time people are losing their jobs flipping burgers to vending machine, robots ect)


I believe that this escapism problem is present in all over the world geologically. The world as a whole is plagued by this problem, be it in the same phase or not, I think its happening.

Parenting is an extremely difficult job, as a human. .

There is no one correct way to be a parent

Yes, I think they are. They are under SO much pressure in whatever they to - whether it's school or martial arts, etc. Those Asian parents get pretty pissed when their children aren't living up to their parent's unreasonable standards. Trust me - I know this. Like 75% of my high school is Asian.

thats what they may 'appear' to be but i can attest a LARGE part of them know jack about what the hell it is or means. they just go through the customs blindly..etc.

It's not just high expectations, it's the fact that they don't show any acceptance when you don't meet their demands.
No acceptance gives people the feeling like they are useless in the world, and end up suiciding.

In america, people try to encourage people who have failed, give them second chances, and try to help them with their life.
In asia, they just laugh at the failures and say they deserved it.

every asian i know has said their parents suck because not getting a perfect is failing, no encouragment to try next time, they failed, end of discussion, they should now consider themselves a disgrace. the only asian kid i know who WASNT like this was a protastant christian(very active); the catholic on the other hand worked hard albit short sighted and unimagnitive(not drawing conclusions) to do the best he can which was egged on by his parents(and his older siblilngs). the buddhist most of all got the greatist pressure to be perfect(one crazy bitch let me tell you). the muslim was the most social and seemingly happiest of the bunch, even from a broken home. we we're one crazy bunch of kids, but we were also in america....

thats not saying EVERY asian takes part of this culture push for perfection, but actually being raised in asia with these stigmas its easy to connect the dots.

*nod* had a friend with typical extra-strict Asian parents... We smoked pounds of herb between us He was the biggest Dead fan I ever met. OTOH I agree that many have that type of parenting and do live up to expectation, which can be good or bad depending how you look at it, hence my last post.
