I don't know how many times I've been in a group with a guy with a 4.0 whose resume I'd shed if it ever crossed my desk.

I agree that extracurriculars do belong in school, but sports don't show up on your resume

They keep you healthier, more active, and even happier, but none of those really matter to some companies.

More bookworms here that thinks grades are everything, and asians are "smart" because they do well at school.
Smartness has absolutely nothing to do with booksmarts.

Definitely wouldn't go that far, but I do agree with you. Yes, HS is supposed to teach you how to write papers and figure out velocity and all that other kind of sh!t, but for the most part it is supposed to teach you how to function in society. People skills, things of that nature, stuff you can't learn from a book.

Then again I'm a peaceful drug using hippy, and I'm more concerned with smoking a bowl and playing xbox with my friends than trying to keep up with the Jones', seeing how much useless sh!t I can aquire to fill the void left by my social inneptitude.

I think that's what you learn OUTSIDE of school.
You don't see the bookworms that spend 12hrs studying a day really good with people. It's usually more like the contrary.

Anyways, if you meant going to school to socialize, instead of to study academics, then I don't think school is a good place to socialize either.
Grade school, all the way up to your junior/senior year of high school are composed of poser kids. There will be one guy that everyone will look up to and copy, and everyone else who doesn't conform are bullied. Not really a good place to learn how to socialize.

Inside/outside, it all ties together. You are telling me back in school you were a complete robot, going from class to class never speaking to anyone or getting into any kind of trouble? Just there to learn, learn, learn. Learning math is why we fund these schools, and it's very important don't get me wrong, but so is laughing and socializing and getting yelled at every now and then. It's what makes life livable, not huddled over a book fretting whether you can get that 4.0 (or hell apparently 5.0).

so are students that are too busy studying.

Okay, so you were obviously the guy that was picked on. I'm sure we've all been in that situation, and then again there is more life lessons learned from omg HS. Didn't need a book for you to figure out the world is full of assholes.

And yes I mean go to school to socialize. You didn't have friends at school? Never had someone you sat next to in class and talked to all the time? Our classes, although productive, were always pretty fun. I took AP classes and we would spend half the time joking around it seemed. Great memories.

Maybe Whites should concentrate less on partying, sex, football and racist attitudes and instead focus on academics? Seems Whites are never happy with other ethnic groups and there's always some form of complaint, be it too much competition or stereotyping of violence.

While acknowledging that the term Asian embraces a wide diversity of countries, cultures and languages, they say there's some truth to the criticisms levied against new immigrant parents, particularly those from countries such as China and India, who often put a lot of academic pressure on their children.

Wah wah the Asians and Indians are too smart for us! Do they ever take the time to consider that the reason the parents put so much pressure on their kids is because they have experienced poverty and hardship in their lives while growing up and don't want their kids to go through the same thing? To them, football games and other useless activities don't take priority over having a succesful career in the real world. When you go to a job interview, you aren't asked to name who the MVP of a football team is.

I had similar experiences in high school. AP classes were fun to go to because all my friends were there. You would go to class, learn interesting things and joke around with your buddies and sometimes even the teacher. Social interation come in many different forms and it is extremely important, in my opinion, to learn how to interact with the kinds of people that will eventually be your classmates in college and colleagues at work.

I am also surprised that music has not yet become the topic of discussion. Where I come from, it is a stereotype (for the most part, a true one) that all Chinese kids either play piano or violin. Music has been, and will continue to be a huge part of my life. People who criticize Asian parents for not letting their kids do extra-curricular activities have constrained their discussion to sports and I believe that this is unfair. Kids that do computer programming in their spare time, play a musical instrument, participate in debate, science olympiad, etc. are just as "well-rounded" as those who play sports.

Word. But it should be something you enjoy doing of course. I've seen many a kid who had to take music lessons even though they hated it. Hell I've seen kids who were forced to play football by an asshole father. For me, it was art. Excelled at it, lived it, loved it, and it's my major atm. That was my extracurricular activity I suppose, with a few years of soccer as well (never that good at it, but had a blast anyways).

LMFAO...studying all day and making love to a book doesn't make you smart. That sort of thing is only for the kids w/o talent. Studying for 2-3 hrs then spending the rest of the day smoking bl..cigarettes and chillin out and still schooling the scrub kids who studied all day. Then rubbing it in their faces. That's skill right there.

So whites left for the suburbs because the blacks and hispanics lowered the standards of the area... and now they're leaving the suburbs because the asians are raising the standards too high? Did i get that right?

I went to a pretty azn school, i couldnt keep up with em. Whenever we got a test back, they would cry OMG I FAILED, but yet their marks would always beat mine... and i was a solid B student.

One of my friends in the school... both his parents are doctors, he is always studying, even during summer break, working hard to be the best he can be. He was one of the top international students for chemistry and one of the top prospects in science, in the country.

Although hes not always too social, when given the chance, he does one hell of a job leading a group. granted, he cant throw a football for ******, but he still played with us at lunch every once in a while. cept he stopped after i busted his finger, and it impaired his competitive piano playing skills.

anyways, for this article, all i can say is : welcome to the real world b1tches. if ur sad white asses cant keep up, go ahead and cry.

lol its like the whole azn-white comparison when raising a kid. white kids will call their lawyers and child support when a parent slaps em. even if the kid well deserved it. ie: my friend was at another kids house, this kid tells his mom to ****** off. what does the mom say? "oh, i just dont know what to do with him"

If you talk back to your parent, Russel Peters' father says it best: "Someone gonna get a real hurt"

And these schools still have sports available for those who are interested... if you don't know how to manage your time to play sports and study, then blame yourself. I went to a heavily asian schools, and we still had all the same sports available as other schools as well. I see schools like those in Texas, where all the schools and all the parents are obsessed with football (for the boys) or cheerleading (for the girls).

Their parents push them way too hard. I've heard of dozens of stories of Asian kids getting a 3.4 on a test in college and then trying to slit their wrists because they think they failed. It's really their parents who failed in teaching them that you should pick yourself back up when you don't reach one of your goals.

Pfft I'm asian.

I was pushed to excel right when I first went to kindgergarden. Be smart, since you can't be physically strong, be mentally.

Course now I don't freakin study for crap cause I realized. I pushed myself too hard, and that the first 8 years of school was for nothing and I should've relaxed.

Damn, I wish I went to school in N. California then. Here in Oklahoma the student body is divided as such:

5% smart
5% "average"
70% just plain idiotic
20% can't even speak English and fail because their teachers have nothing to say to them

I'd say the school was 60% white, 30% hispanic (Mexican), 5% black, 5% Asian/other
My highschool actually had an unofficial race war between the more violent of whites and hispanics.
