no audio technica?
If I were naming every respectable headphone company i'd need a MUCH larger list, I was just giving a basic few that would be good places to look.

Some other good companies (again, not a complete list):

Audeze
Stax
NAD
PSB
Koss
Ultimate Ears
Mr. Speakers
Focal
V-Moda
etc.

Go audition the headphones yourself. I kinda laugh at anyone recommending something as personal as a set of headphones. Either foolish, or full of themselves

Good luck finding somewhere that will let you test out more than your basic shitty beats and maybe some mid range sennheisers. You'd be hard pressed to find somewhere that has Planar magnet cans for testing, or some of the higher end headphones. A lot of times all you have to go off of is other peoples recommendations. Buy them for yourself and try them. Anywhere you go to try out headphones wont be using the same setup you will be using anyway, so it isn't going to be fully representative of your normal listening in the first place.

IF you can, of course try them out before hand, BUT, with higher end headphones unless you are willing to track down someone who owns a pair or manage to convince a local shop to let you play around with them, online reviews and recommendations are going to be your best bet. If they aren't the headphones for you, just return them. I tend to order from amazon for the hassle free returns for just this reason.

Great headphones, just over priced. You are paying for the name, but they are still very solid headphones. Not worth the full price of $400, but they are at least as good as decent $250-300 cans from other companies. The beats are $400 but only worth maybe $140.
Good sounding headphones though, enjoy them.

they do the research. I swear that most that buy them it ain't for the sound. it's for the social status.

Like most things. Beats aren't terrible.

It's like 7FAM jeans, some understand it and can afford them; others just like to brag how their $10 Wranglers are just as good.

if you ever listened to the difference you could tell that pr piece is pure bullshit

sales of high end motherboards with "high quality audio"

Yup...I'm still rocking an X-fi from 2005, and there is a NIGHT AND DAY difference between the Xfi's quality and the onboard "hi-fi" soundcards.

I agree with the custom IEM suggestion. Except not those... these.
http://www.jhaudio.com/content/sirens-roxanne

For an on-ear headphone to blow away the Beats, the Sennheiser Momentum for only $199.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MOM...973ATPSMQ4J9BE

The K10 are better than the Roxannes, according to most people who have heard both. But of course not everyone has the same taste in sound signatures. MY TF10 customs are of course based on Jerry Harvey designs. IMHO Noble is making the best in the world right now, check out their FB images, some sick work.

Head-fi meets are a great way to test high end gear. They have another coming up in May, that I might check out.

Beats are good sounding headphones but they are obviously at least 3x more expensive than they should be just for the brand recognition. Sort of like chicks with designer purses

It's all about social status.

Fuck we are now getting pranks being told to us a Social Experiments.

These tools are not fitting in, they scare us. Someone comes up to me like that chances are I am going to have them tap out prior to whatever they are trying to accomplish with their friend running video.

Hey thanks. Things are changing so rapidly now in the headphone community, it's hard to stay informed!

For years, I have been looking (in vain) for an IEM similar to the linear sound signature of my Etymotic ER-4S (except with bass slam) and was seriously considering the Roxanne. These TF10 might fit the bill even better.

Agreed. Seriously guys, there's a whole world of possibilities out there beyond this measly close-minded forum.

As far as all headphones sounding similar, perhaps to the untrained ear, but measurably and objectively they aren't even close. Believe it or not, there are some headphones worthy of being priced well above $250-500.

Some of these measurements actually hurt my ears.

If you want to try something in the not so pricey range, have a look at the Dunu DN1000. Its a hybrid, so you get BA drivers and a dynamic, so they produce that lower bass found in an all dynamic, plus the clarity and accuracy of a BA. They also recently came out with the DN 2000, but haven't done much reading about those.

Thanks. That's a very interesting concept for an IEM, exciting actually. Think I just found a new toy.

Nope and my $250 Sennheiser HD 575 + FiiO E12 amp will destroy them in terms of sound quality.

Too bad "your" kids will never love you no matter how much money you waste on them.

Hey now, he orders a "custom" refrigerator through AT and allots plenty of freezer space, not sure what you are getting at. He had to glance several attackers in that fridge thread.

So glad my parents warned me about people like Alky.

I have LG tones+ and they work great for the price. I wish I could get rid of the blue flashy light, but the warranty is up soon, so I will "hack" it.

Most that are rocking BEATS and the like aren't at home. They just plug them into their iPhone.

Most that have BEATS doing that, have better set ups as home.
