About the laptops, yes, they might be cheaper, but on average, the physical case building of them is shoddy at best. IBM laptops are a favorite here not necessarily because they're the fastest, but because they are a tank. An extra 2% speed advantage in Office because you're running X speed processor on Y video card does not balance out the 0% productivity when the lappy dies.
One of the most notable things about many Dell laptops is that the screen hinges tend to wear out or break too soon.
Think Honda Civic vs Dodge Viper. Sure, one's a lot cheaper and they both do the same job, and tweaking that engine might make them equally fast, but the difference is quality. Style has a little bit to it as well
There's a reason the Viper is $80kish and the Civic is $10kish, and it's not because one is American made and the other is foreign made.
