Oh i didn't know Republicans favored FDR's new deal policies now.

Jesus Christ youre stupid. I apologize in advance if youre drunk or english is your second language.

WHOOOOSH!

This coming from the guy who thought taiwan was actually going to have a 4 trillion dollar deficit (probably about TEN TIMES THEIR GDP)? Really? REALLY?

If the best you can do is attack me by keeping on going back to an incident I not only admitted, in the same thread, I misread and was wrong about, AND apologized to the board for, then fuck you.

Have a fucked day.

If the best you can do is cut off the last couple of sentences (the last of which is relevant to your complete misunderstanding of the conservative view of social security) then fuck you. Do you honestly believe the GOP WOULDN'T get rid of social security if they had a supermajority in congress and awareness wasn't raised by the democrats? Thanks to that awareness, the GOP would get SLAUGHTERED at the polls if they even try, that's the point. They are damn lucky that their attempts to even privatize social security was a limp wristed attempt, otherwise their losses in the '08 elections would have been much worse.

Doesn't matter if you admitted to it and apologized for, you still have to be a tremendous fucking moron to not stop and think if 4 trillion dollars for a deficit is in any way shape or form reasonable for a large island nation.

As you would say: WOOOOOOOOOOSH!

Sort of like the Republicans are raising "awareness" (or as some more accurately call it, FUD) on the health care reform? Some of you partisans amaze me with your inability to see that both parties are merely two sides of the same coin.

No moreso than any Republican you care to name. Here's a hint most of them are wealthy beyond your ability to comprehend. Their "reality" is not one you would recognize.

I found it very funny and interesting that the democrat can actually think of even the idea of fining people for not buying health insurance. People are against it, Obama seems to be against the idea too, then how come these call so democrat can think of such insane idea? These are suppose to be our representative, yet they don't even represent a fraction of what people really want.

People are against it because they don't understand why it's necessary. And the fact that YOU call it an "insane idea" is an indication of how limited your own understanding is.

Consider: Let's suppose you're young and in good health. So you decide to "take a chance" and save money by NOT purchasing health insurance. That works well for several years, but then - against the odds - you get cancer or contract AIDS and need expensive, ongoing treatment, OR you fall off a ledge and need major rehabilitative care.

You have no money, and your care costs several hundred thousand dollars. So, who pays for your medical care?

Right now, the insured would pay for your care, by way of higher premiums. Plus, there are government subsidies to the hospitals who care for you. In other words, you costs would be borne by the rest of us.

By forcing you to have medical insurance at some basic level, you become a part of the solution rather than one of the problems.

Also, by spreading the insurance pool among almost all Americans (the current guess is that 96% of Americans would be insured under various public and private plans if the UHC proposal passes), the cost of insurance for the sick or elderly or those with pre-existing conditions can be kept at a moderate level.

So the young would pay somewhat more than they cost to the system, but they would benefit as they get older and pay less than their cost to the system. Ultimately, over the life of the individual, the cost would be reasonable and fair.

One of the reasons our current system doesn't work is that the insurance companies cherry-pick only the healthy for private polices (rejecting those with "pre-existing conditions," even if those individuals have never been ill). Conversely, the young and healthy reverse cherry-pick and opt-out of insurance. Those two factors cause major problems, and ANY "solution" to our current health care mess cannot allow those factors to continue.

Thus, a mandate for individuals to obtain health insurance is just the opposite of insane. It's one of the few things that make sense. And most legislators - both those on the let AND those on the right - AGREE that it's necessary.

this may be the first articulated, well thought out post I have ever read in P&N...

He resorts to name calling and spewing vile insults. He is as much a partisan hack as the winnar111s of the world. I especially love how he makes sweeping generalizations about conservatives, something liberals decry if conservates paint groups of people with similarly wide brushstrokes.

I'm going to quote Arkaign, probably the ONLY conservative who deserves any respect on this forum:

I'm a conservative, but find this kind of behavior absolutely reprehensible. I recently went to a backyard cookout with a few neighbors (this is an almost 100% 'Republican' area), and was shocked at: A) How ----ing idiotic most of them were and B) How often I heard people talking about assassinating the POTUS and other 'liberals/commies'

As a conservative, I also have to say that :

Republicans are generally not interested in truth if it interferes with their bottom line. They'll use any means necessary, lies, cheating, and stealing to push their agenda. That's the nature of the people we are dealing with at the top of the Republican party.

The fact that you think these 'sweeping generalizations are unfair shows how out of touch you are.

No, they show how brainwashed you are and how big of a hack you are. Using the opinion of one person to validate your opinion -- a BRILLIANT exercise in logic. Both parties are awful and you are too blind to see it.

And by the way, having your respect isn't a priority for most people.

EDIT: TIME WARPS SUCK

er, really? Obama opposed Hillary's mandates in the primaries. Most legislators on the left and right agree on the necessity of mandates? I missed that somewhere.

Illegals have to be treated when they show up at the emergency room due to federal law. This also applies to the uninsured. One thing I noticed over the course of time is that if you dont have medical insurance the hospitals get away with charging you more for health care. This is because the insurance companies will not pay their overpriced fees for their services. So if you owe the hospital money for an uninsured visit you should refuse to pay their outrageous charges and negotiate you bill down to a lower amount. They will lower their bill if you talke to them. What the hospitals do is they charge a lot knowing the insurance company will not pay it so they can negotiate the price down to a real amount that the insurance company will pay. I have seen them try to charge $2,000.00 for a CAT scan and then accept $500.00. There is no way an uninsured person can have enough time to haggle with these idiots. If you are uninsured you are at a definite disadvantage.

What I think the Hospitals and doctors do is that if the person is indigent, then they claim it at a loss at the higher amount so they are also cheating on their taxes.

Wow, this thread should be example #1 as to why we can't have a real healthcare debate in this country. Not only do you have the usual trolls making references to things completely unrelated to healthcare (Acorn, Ayers, etc. etc.), but people continue to spout the same lies despite them being debunked in this very thread with the actual text of the bill at hand. At times, it is like the blind leading the blind, deaf, and stupid. It is no wonder we are left with the most inefficient system the first world has ever known. If it doesn't correspond with your political agenda or it isn't coming from your side/team/whatever, you just plug your ears and walk away...you know...the easy way out.
