i'm planning to get a 212+. this board is stable, but sucks. in BIOS, the fans can be set for auto/manual control/min-max speeds. but the auto controls dont work. my fans are only running at 1000rpm at high stress.... sigh
EDIT:actually I take this back... i blame bad documentation

Try Speedfan, it gives good fan control options. Google for configuration (or ask me).

Platform Controller HUb Temp(aka southbridge) get 49C at idle... lack of heatsinks kills it, though stress doesnt raise the temps too much

49 seems high, the pch only uses like 4,5W...this is a review of the DH67BL but it has the same pch+heatsink and temps are only 35: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1143-page6.html. What program did you use to measure temps?

But it's not really relevant to oc-ing. All the pch does is control sata-ports/pci-e slots. There's no need to increase pch voltage when overclocking.

And a question for you (or other users of this board), the manual states the onboard red sata port is intended for e-sata usage. I was wondering if a normal device like hdd or drive works on it as well? Or did Intel do some weird stuff to it making it e-sata only?

yep, tried it... cant make it work, though it sees the fan speed... will try again later, or ask u or look at the speedfan config on my laptop, but the BIOS fan-speed setting is okay

both HWMonitor and Intel's Desktop Utility. They both agree on most of the values(HWMonitor fan speed is inaccurate)

i'll take a look at it once I get home. From what i remember, it looks physically similar to the other ports. from the SATA3.0 issue, i haven't taken a closer look at the esata/SATA3.0 ports

I thought you might have gotten the hint by me saying H67 doesn't support overclocking.
i was just wondering what kind of overclocking option there was, or whether Intel screwed up and gave some kind of turbo-OC option on their h67 option

Yea I tried, it has lots of options. GPU/CPU/PCH voltage, I'm not sure how finely I could tune it but there were probably 20 or so voltage options so it must be enough. it looked like the BIOS itself could even allow the user to adjust per core Turbo, unfortunately that was greyed out. Tried non-Turbo multiplier settings, didn't work. I'm wondering if they are reserving it for Z68 or even unlock-by-website in the future?
mines locked at 33x (can go lower, but not above)

If anyone remembers my previous sig, they would know that I had the DH55HC board. That board has far scarce options, but it actually worked. I could only up clocks by 10% since there was no multiplier adjustment, meaning 10% really meant 10%(CPU/Uncore/IMC/Graphics/PCI Express/DMI).
ill post some screenshots of my bios later. some sample ones are available at http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=31207231&postcount=42

Are you saying you can't overclock at all? Don't you have a P67 board? Or that you can only overclock using Turbo, not fixed frequency, which is understandable as not all boards have the option of overclocking with fixed frequency on Sandy Bridge.

OC via turbo only. need to enable speedstep for turbo to work

previous BIOS version allowed me to change the fixed frequency to above 33x, but did nothing. current BIOS version has a ceiling for fixed frequency of 33x

None of the mainstream boards from Intel are going to have much in the way of overclocking features or support. The Extreme Series boards do, and while they're very adequate for moderate overclocking, fall a little short of the "extreme" overclocking support and capability implied in the name.

yeah, but currently the only available matx boards for p67 are the intel one, and the asus ones(which seem to have even more problems than the intel one)

i'm currently enjoying the challenge of figuring out the OC options. there aren't many(no PLL voltage offset i think), but enough

i'm planning to see how far this chip+mobo(with a 212+ cooler soon) can go(maybe 4.7@1.35?), probably going to run it at 4.2-4.5 at the end.

will not let vcore go above 1.35, stressed cpu temp go above 70
