Are motherboards almost irrelevant nowadays?

I think there are still a lot of active 939 computers with single core and people want to make them dual core.

It is cheaper to buy an AM2+ mobo amd CPU than to repair a 939 dual core or mobo.

Resale values of S939 CPUs and mobos are ridiculously high to the point of outright lunacy (You can buy a far faster brandnew CPU + mobo + 4GB DDR3 for the price of a used ebay X2 4800+). You are not the only one with them.

I take it you never sold your dual core 939?

I would say you are also paying for the name and level of QC for any given brand. Asus, gigabyte have been around and have established their reputations and can charge more because of it. Same as any other product.
