They put posters up on all the subway cars here telling people to contact the police if they are having problems like this. You can't control a person like a slave. It's mostly being focused on people being forced to marry or female circumcision but it mentions things as simple as being forbidden to play soccer.

lmao

on topic, 20y/o is no longer a suitable age to be moving out. I moved out at age 23 and it was really hard saving for a rental deposit as you had to pay 1 month upfront, plus a bond which was more than 1 months anyway so it was over 1k before i touched the keys then next thing you know the next months is up along with lots of bills.

his parents do sound a bit weird though, even if he is still living under their roof as long as he pays his contributions what the fuck has it got to do with them what he spends his money on... i ended up in debt when i was at home due to some stupid mistakes and my parents were there for me, i got myself into it i had to get myself out of it, but my parents offered support and didn't make it any harder on me than it was.

unless he's just a irresponsible douche and they are sick of him.

Back for more? You are a hungry little fella. ^_^

This was our first time in the restaurant so I simply asked the chef for his suggestion.

I didn't want to read the menu because all the food seemed all over the place and I wasn't very familiar with the restaurant. As a result of that, I simply went up to the chef and asked him what is a good choice. He gave me a suggestion for a roll and the price and I simply declined.

When I went inside the restaurant I wasn't planning to eat anyway. I just wanted to chill with the guy. I also did skimmed through the menu by the way and did notice how expensive the Sushi is. In cased you were wondering.

I think you should look for an anger management or a "How to Troll better" Class. Even I can do better than you without trying.

So much fail in a single post.

You go to a restaurant for the first time and, having no clue about prices, you ask the chef for a recommendation? LOL!

You should've known he'd recommend something that's not quite cheap. Why would he? He's in business of maximizing his profit. So, I guess you figured he'd, out of some sort of misguided philanthropy, suggest the cheapest item on the menu?

Sheesh.

And then, you in fact did read the menu despite proclaiming you didn't. See above...."I also did skimmed through the menu by the way..."

So, we have an unfamiliar restaurant, no clue as to what costs what, and you don't want to read the menu because.....there's no reasonable explanation for that, actually. First thing you should have done is read the menu, at least that's what an adult would have done.

But hey, you'll make a great sucker, errrr, consumer, when you go to buy your first car. I guess you'll just stroll in to a dealership you've never been to, notice cars all over the place, get confused, ask the salesman's suggestion and get taken to the cleaners, just like you did in that restaurant.

And what does the food was all over the place mean? On the walls, ceiling, what? Certainly couldn't be prices....you didn't read the menu....oh, wait, you did read the menu. But you didn't know how much anything cost....oh, wait, you did notice how expensive the sushi was.

Good deal helping your friend out by mentioning how expensive the food was. True friend, you are.

Still can't figure out if you or your friend is more retarded. And your posts in the Japan birthrate thread crack me up. Note, I'm not the only thinking the same. And what Meghan54 said.

I don't even know you and yet you are attacking me. You are either related to that captdave guy or you are his alt.

Anyways I will bite.

Yes I did

You should've known he'd recommend something that's not quite cheap. Why would he? He's in business of maximizing his profit. So, I guess you figured he'd, out of some sort of misguided philanthropy, suggest the cheapest item on the menu?
I stated that I wasn't even planning to eat anyways. Yes, I did look at the menu because we got the menu first and my friend insisted that I look at it.

Sheesh.

And then, you in fact did read the menu despite proclaiming you didn't. See above...."I also did skimmed through the menu by the way..."
The first thing the restaurant did was giving us the menu. I merely just skim through it. The food didn't interest me.

So, we have an unfamiliar restaurant, no clue as to what costs what, and you don't want to read the menu because.....there's no reasonable explanation for that, actually. First thing you should have done is read the menu, at least that's what an adult would have done.
I skimmed the menu because like I have said before, I didn't plan to order anything. Why would I waste my time reading the menu.
I didn't pay and I wasn't planning to.

I had a laugh that you would compare ordering some food to buying a car. If I buying something like a car or a computer, then yes I would have check up online for reviews and rating. But food? No, not really. And gotten taken to the cleaners? I am picky about prices, so I won't accept a deal unless I find that it would give me the most bang for my buck.

And what does the food was all over the place mean? On the walls, ceiling, what? Certainly couldn't be prices....you didn't read the menu....oh, wait, you did read the menu. But you didn't know how much anything cost....oh, wait, you did notice how expensive the sushi was.
All the Sushi cost about $10+ the only thing that was cheap was the Miso Soup which cost $2. I wanted to order that, but decided not to.

Try again.

Good deal helping your friend out by mentioning how expensive the food was. True friend, you are.
He wanted to order. His money.

I think you are missing something in your fail equation. I didn't spend any money on the food so I didn't get rip off.

Sounds to me like his parents are making sure he is not living beyond his means or hangs out with the wrong crowd.

Since there is TONS of shitty people out there, they might have a point.......

I don't know. He gets financial aid also

A person so without his own resources such that he is getting financial aid probably shouldn't be spending (see what I did there?) his afternoons casually dropping twenty bucks a pop on sushi.

That he strolled into that restaurant and didn't even price what he ordered beforehand, to the point where he had to borrow five bucks from you, screams the kind of fiscal irresponsibility that could come to bite him in the ass later in life.

His parents may have a point.

Hey, his parents could also be over-controlling assholes. But, based solely on the info you've provided here in this thread, your conclusion that he is the innocent victim of Nazi 'rents seems a bit shaky. <shrug>

They are middle class. Almost all his siblings went to a UC for medical degrees like dentist and pharmacy. He also said his dad was a dentist or something like. Somewhere in the medical field.

Even if they are tight on cash, they shouldn't be THAT overprotective. The dude spent like $20 on food (I spotted him $5 because he didn't clarify with the chef how much he was going to be charged. (I also think he was cheated too.) and they are acting like he committed a horrendous act or something.

Why is a 20 year old dude spending his parents money on food? He can't get a job at McDonalds to pay for his own entertainment expenses? My parents made me buy my own food when I went out with friends when I turned 16.

So me and my friend went out to get something to eat after school. Nothing strange there right? Apparently, his mom found a receipt of the place we went to eat at and she started to question him. It was like an inquisition from what he described and when his parents found out, they took away his car. So now they drive him to school instead of him usually driving himself to school. I think he said his parents don't like him spending a lot of money or something like that.
So apparently going by what he told me, his parents basically tries to keep him on a lease. They don't really let him hang out with friends or anyone outside of school for that matter.

When I was walking with him to the parking lot, he even told me to not let his dad see me. I was like WTF... Who does that? His Dad haven't even met me before.

He is 20 years old so I am going WTF when he told me what happened. His parents basically grounded him, and I was like.. Who the heck gets grounded at 20 years old.

I think these kind of parents are crazy. What do you guys think?

For anyone inquiring about race, he is Asian.

Maybe he doesn't want his parents to know that he's dating a dude?

LOL @ "he didn't clarify with the chef how much he was going to be charged".

What does that even mean.

Not sure... Everywhere I've ever eaten has had prices clearly stated on the menu. Perhaps this 20y/o child lacks the ability to read?

Sounds like the OP has more of a problem with this guy's parents than he does, which is strange. Also, nothing to suggest "insanity."

Uh... no he can't. At least none of the fast food restaurants around here are hiring, and there are plenty. And good luck getting a job without a high school diploma nowadays.

Can't speak for everywhere, but around here work is simply no longer available for people without prior qualifications. My GF busted her ass for a year getting certifications, externships and such to simply to wind up with a $10/hour job. If her parents hadn't been supporting said efforts I don't know what she would have done.

I hate that our country is in this situation. I am not usually political, but first we outsource jobs and then run into a job crunch, then we make school so expensive that you have to live in debt paying it back for the rest of your life, and then we shut down the government. Most of the time I don't let stuff like that bother me, but it just seems like we keep shooting ourselves in the foot more & more. Check out the annual college costs according to College Data:

http://www.collegedata.com/cs/content/content_payarticle_tmpl.jhtml?articleId=10064

In its most recent survey of college pricing, the College Board reports that a "moderate" college budget for an in-state public college for the 2012–2013 academic year averaged $22,261. A moderate budget at a private college averaged $43,289. But what makes up these charges? Of course, financial aid might help cover some costs, but it is good to know how they add up to a total "cost of attendance" figure provided by the college.

$22k a year for a run-of-the-mill public college and $43k a year for a private college. So even if you go in-state for four years, you're looking at $88,000 by the time you graduate. Plus interest. Even if you draw that out over 25 years, that's still $300 a month, and if you're only making $10 an hour, that's only $1600 a month, minus taxes, minus student loan payment, minus food/clothes/rent/insurance/etc.

Not everyone's parents can flip the bill for college and not every student is able to get scholarships for a free ride in school, so there's an awful lot of kids in serious debt out there. I really think the country should either subsidize school down to where you can actually afford it, or just cover the bill completely. That's an investment in our country's future right there. I know dozens and dozens of kids who really want to go to school or finish school but simply don't feel that they can afford to, despite the different financial aid programs available. It's tough.

the parents sound way too controlling, but at the same time, we don't know the whole story either.

could be that your friend borrowed money from them for "school books" only for his parents to find out that he was blowing the money on going out with his friends instead or something along those lines.

Werd! You've got to fight / for your right / to sushi!

It's a basic human rights issue. Time to get the UN involved.

Chauffeuring that poor kid to school each day sounds like a clear case of Transient Vehicular Kidnapping to me.

The key aspect of dependence is that you are owned by whatever you are dependent on. Best to remember that, for family, drugs, and civics.
