Are new games boring...

...or am I the only one that thinks that they consist of just eye candy and no gameplay? Here lately I've been in the mood to play a new game and just can't find one to satisfy me. I guess I'll just have to go back to some of the old reliables until something of interest pops up that can hold me for more than an hour.

Or it could be that I'm just getting burnt out an need a vacation...who knows.

I feel that way, too. I miss the days were pure gameplay carried a game.

I also miss the mindless action games (gradius, commander keen, halloween harry, etc). I like games to be a break, not work. Learning 5000 keys to control my person sucks.

A lot of times I do prefer older games but there are a couple of new games that I like.

You just have to pick the right games.

Of the recent (<1 year) releases:

I just played through Baldur's Gate 2, and it was all gameplay and story. A classic in my book.

From a strict gameplay point of view, Diablo2 could be considered a master. Very simple to pick up, yet extremely addictive.

Counterstrike is probably the king of gameplay at the moment.

Jagged Alliance 2 was a blast.

Upcoming titles:

Black and White looks like it will set the bar for the next few months.

Dungeon Siege looks interesting.

Neverwinter Nights, assuming it lives up to expectation (which is probably a good bet, BIS rules), will probably be the grand poobah of RPG's for the next few years.

Its been a bit lame, but some new games look neat. Just played the demo for Operation Flashpoint - my comp sucks too bad to run it properly but it looks good. TF2, black and white..they look good.

I know exactly what you mean. I used to play Mechwarrior 2 and its expansion back ghost bear legacy all the time. Activision did an excellent job with the keyboard mapping and mouse controls. It was great game to play. The graphics really suck if you compare them to anything done recently. I have tried MW3 and the demo for MW4, but ever since microsoft became involved with the development of the game it isn't as much fun. They changed all the controls around and they are less efficient.

In the strategy dept, I still think Starcraft is king. Have tried several different newer ones, but the are only fun for a short while.

i disagree. New games are cool. Some suck (/me thinks they are trying to hard) but overall they are nice.
I currently got the following and I love them:
1. The Moon Project
2. Oni
3. F1 Championship Racing
4. Homeworld Cataclysm
5. and Icewind (i dont like the graphics in it. Looks boring)

So far i'm hooked on Oni and my roommate is hooked on the F1 game. The moonproject is like a part 2 to Earth 2150 which is a sweet 3d strategy game. and Homeworld, well come on Homewould is just the shiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzznet!!!

There seems to be an abundance of crappy games out there but there are also some good ones like
CounterStrike and BG II.
