Are people in New York as rude as they're made out to be in movies?

I live within driving distance of New York. I can tell you from my experience that people from the New York area (not just New York, but North Jersey, Connecticuit also) are very mean. Nasty, nasty people.

You can't honestly say that the attitude in New York is the same as it is in every other place in the world. The new york area is world renown for its rushed pace and rude people. I've been the plenty of times and it's definitely the case.

Even driving from South Jersey to North Jersey is a very drastic difference.

Trust me, you don't. It's only an hour's ride from me and I avoid it at all costs. My sister has lived in NY for 5 years and I've visited her 0 times. That should tell you something. I absolutely hate the place.

The only people who think New Yorkers are nice are New Yorkers themselves, or people who haven't got a clue.

Philly's a dirty city. People are nice, but let me tell you, they are FAT. People in NY at least walk around all day, people in Philly eat Philly Cheesesteaks all day.

I bet if you ranked Philly with the rest of the nation, they'd be near the top in fatness.

Interesting. I live in Central Jersey, grew up in NY and work in Philly.

People in Philly are generally okay, South Jersey may have the rudest people in America. NY'ers in general are not too bad.

I mean the part of North Jersey that is one giant suburb of NY. Jersey City, Newark, Elizabeth, etc. Total dumps. Disgusting area. Putrid. Upstate NJ where the mountains are is very nice.

i'm from detroit and currently living in NYC for some 3 months. People are actually really nice - i haven't had a bad experience yet.

However they can't drive worth a sh!t. People from NJ are about 10x worse too...

the only thing close to being rude is some random old fart telling myfriend not to put his wet umbrella on the subway seat (he wanted to sit down or something). I casually ignored him after being tempted to tell him to fvck off. Besides that i haven't got a problem yet.

when I went to new york city for a few days on vacation, I noticed that the people were nice.
