Instant-on radar is used all the time--has been almost as long as radar detectors have been on the market. (What's it been, since the 60s or early 70s?)

And lasers are indeed in frequent use. I think it's safe to say that most traffic cops in my state now have both radar units (including many rear facing radars) and lasers. Lasers haven't been developed to the point where they're usable from a moving car, so they have laser guns for when they're stationary, and radars for when they're moving.

More than 50% of the time speeding tickets are use to raise revenue !!

That is why it's called a radar trap. We are considering an Escort 8500 for our trips
to Sacramento.

A RD is not legal in Canada they use devices that will find you if yours is on up there.
Its all a game of cops & robbers but on an adult level.

Put a lot of thought into that statement huh?

It doesnt take a lot of thought to do or think the right thing.

My guess is you are of the school of thought it is ok for the cops to search your home at any time without reason too right? I mean if you haven't done anything wrong you have nothing to hide right?

I don't speed on purpose, never have. When I was younger, I'd occasionally "forget" how fast I was going, or I wasn't paying attention. That is when I would get a ticket. I got 4 tickets when I was younger, but have not had one in the past 3 years. I only got tickets in radar traps (which I think should be banned), going 5 or 6 over (bs). My radar detector has saved me quite a few times from being trapped. Its paid for itself

Well usually if 55 zone i drive 70 and in a 65 i drive 80....is it still worth it for me?

That's about the pace of traffic on I-75.

Umm....is that a hidden form or "yes" or "no"?

For me, that's a no. I just hit 75-80 with the rest of the crowd and hide in the middle of the pack. As long as you're not leading or trailing, your chance of getting picked off is slim to none.

Nope. I speed almost everywhere I go and I have never got a speeding ticket (well, in 5 years I've been driving at least). I consider that a pretty good track record, and I can do it by not speeding a crazy amount and paying attention. To me, those seem like things you should be doing anyways. I mean really, bitch all you want, but you going 20-30 mph faster than everyone else on the road is not safe. Yes, I realize you think you are a great driver. That doesn't make it safe, especially because most people are NOT good drivers.

My radar detector also warns me of emergency vehicles on the highway as well as trains when coming to certain track crossings.
Yeah, but seriously people don't buy RDs for that in 99% of cases. They use them to break the law. They SHOULD be illegal. I would personally like to have the Valentine 1, but I'm not paying $400, and I know for a fact that it would encourage me to speed. By all accounts I've heard, people get more tickets when they buy an RD, because they end up driving so fast.
My main reason for picking it up was because I constantly travelled through Ohio. The troopers on Route 80 will hand out tickets for doing 4 over. It was a hassle I wanted to avoid. Plus I refuse to do ~65mph on the interstate and have truckers on my ass the whole ride.

Actually the truckers are pretty good to have around if it's speed traps you're worried about. The truckers all have cb's and they call out the cop's locations over the radio when they see them. I find that if you can get a trucker who's keeping a fairly quick speed, you should be able to follow him and match his speed and avoid getting ticketed. It sucks when you hit a hill though. Nothing ticks me off more than when a trucker tries to pas another trucker on a hill and doesn't have the speed to get past. So they just sit there and block the passing lane. Maybe a cb would be a good idea, if it's highway driving anyway.

70 in a 55 is just about flow of traffic... I wouldn't buy one for that. If you plan on going faster, don't depend on them to keep you out of a ticket.. none of them are 100% foolproof. I think the best was a Valentine, but the price is up there. Would take 3 speeding tickets to pay for itself.
