new driver?
gas prices were higher in '08.

I dunno. Everyone says they were higher, but I've never seen more than $4.39 until recently.

There is a lone Hess station here in the Bronx that has the lowest gas prices but they won't accept CC, and demand exact change only, which makes it incredibly hard to fill up.

It's really annoying. The lone worker says he is not allowed to give back change.

Eh? I don't remember it ever cresting $4/gal in the midwest where I've lived my whole life. Except in/around Chicago, of course.

To the poll, no. 32mpg city and a four mile round trip work commute, as well as Madison's superlative public transportation system, means gas will have to get a lot more expensive to hit my wallet.

Indirectly, yes, as the costs distributed across everything else will add up to substantial amounts of money.
I do. Summer of '08 it peaked near $4.25, at least

Yes, both the gas and the rising price of food and other goods. Both my wife and I have 56-58 mile round trips to work, so it adds up quickly.

I'd rather not be spending $50 to fill up my tank, but, what can ya do? Now that the weather is a bit warmer, the girlfriend and I will start biking around town for local errands again. My commute to work is barely 20 miles roundtrip, so I'm going to start biking to work when the weather is consistently warm in another few weeks.

To help offset the cost of gas, I've been turning my computer off at night and while I'm at work. This'll probably save me some extra cash.

Not really. I live ~2 miles from work and run to work most days. I get a tank of gas once every 3 weeks or so.

Yes, i just switched vehicles froma Honda CRX that got around 40MPG to a Chev 3/4 Ton 4x4 pickup that gets 15MPG.

im trying to do the opposite. i have a dodge ram 1500 that gets about 15 and its to the point where im spending almost 600 a month on gas. just under 100 a fill up, usually two fill ups a week. sucks. it is definitely affecting me, but on the money side rather than the driving side. ive changed my work to the point where i dont really need my truck anymore, so im looking for a beater that gets 20+mpg to use as a daily.

Kind of... when I fill up I curse under my breath. After that I go on my merry way though.

All of my gas is basically free. It's included with the unlimited use of the vehicle provided to me for my job.

I swear traffic is much worse, more cars on the road, as prices go higher. I don't get it. Seems no matter the price, there are 2 things people always afford. #1 gas, #2 cell phone. Employed or not, somehow everyone always finds the money for these 2 items. So no matter how high gas goes or how much your cell phone bill may be, people over all find the cash. If high gas prices actually resulted in a noticeable drop in road traffic, I'd be all for high gas, the higher the better. But it doesn't work that way. The higher the gas, the more traffic on the roads. Weird...

I'll tell you why. People have this stupid fucking idea that driving slow gets better gas mileage. Yesterday I was driving home and I was stuck behind 3 lanes of cars going 30mph in a 35mph zone. At that speed, a little gust of air blowing past the gas pedal makes the automatic transmission change gears. CHANGING GEARS ALL THE TIME RUINS GAS MILEAGE YOU ASSHOLES.

I remember this happening a few years ago and the same thing happened. My friend's pickup truck wouldn't switch into the highest gear because traffic just wouldn't go fast enough. Gas mileage goes down the shitter.

The Oil Co. just brought me out a 500 Gal. Diesel tank & a 200 gal. Gas tank.
Farm fuel, it's cheaper than highway fuel, but yeah, I was still shocked.

I notice the price when I'm filling up but it doesn't change my behavior or habits and it isn't going to effect me budget wise or anything.

Not for nearly 4 weeks. My boss has had me at various job sites over the last 4 weeks and I'm driving the company car. Regardless, at 15.4 miles per day, I usually buy about a tank about every 3 to 4 weeks just for work.

Wife works across the street from the house and walks. Daughter buys own gas (actually, she, at 17, works and buys most of everything she gets and pays half of her car insurance too - can't complain there).

Food prices are kicking me in the nuts though......

Yes. I barely get 20 mpg now in my civic because of hellishly short trips I do. I go to school about five times a week. 3.5*2 = 7 miles * 5 = 35 miles a week. If only it was that little. Unfortunately, there are other things I do in my car and so it adds up much closer to 75 miles a week somehow. I blame having to drive around for parking. I do a 1.2 mile circuit for parking where I live. Sometimes you have to go around twice. Sometimes you land it instantly.(Usually not that though)

Close to 45 miles for legitimate driving, yet I have to fill up every 3 weeks or so. I maybe get 200 miles in a tank now. (11 gallons or so)
