i saw an episode the other day where the simpsons couldn't get along and they were assigned a social worker. they went camping with the social worker and eventually had to work together to save him from being mauled by coyotes & cougars. then they go home, only to see the two sluts that homer and ned married in vegas (from another episode). eventually, homer goes to court to try to get the marriage annulled, but the judge says polygamy is legal in nevada. could this be a good indication of where the simpsons are located, or was it just that homer travelled to nevada to try to get the marriage annulled?

I'd say that's it. I don't think you can go to court in one state to get a marriage annulled from another.

D'oh! I can't believe people are still trying to figure it out....They're not from anywhere! The show's producers just drop little misdirectional hints now and then to keep people guessing.

Besides, everyone knows it's Idaho

but here we go again, one of these "where do the simpsons" threads pops up every now and then

They're most likely in illinois. We'll never know though. I don't think any town has a giant mountain range, half a day's access to international waters, and completely surrounded by water with only one bridge to the outside world *meteor episode*.

Oh well, I'd have to agree with the "made-up town" idea.

Its not Arizona, the Dakodas, Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Deleware, or Massachusettes either. Getting that from verious eps. At some point you'll probobly be able to eleminate all 50 states as being possibilities from where the Simpsons are from

at the end of the Behind the Laughter episode, they said that the Simpsons were from northern Kentucky. Problem solved.

the state they are from must have over 2000 McDonalds restaurants...in one episode Lou tells Wiggum that he was was at a mcdonalds in shelbyville..."the mc-what?". "yeah i never heard of it either, but they have over 2000 locations in this state alone."

OK, let's clear this up.

The "Behind the Laughter" episode claimed they were "ORIGINALLY" from Kentucky (i.e., they are rednecks... it was a parody). Not that the Show's main town of Springfield is in Kentucky.

Anyone who has more than a passing interest and knowledge of the show knows that "Springfield" is a morphing "anytown" and is not intended to portray any one American town. The name "Sprigfield" was chosen because it's the first or second most common town name in America.

Finally, Springfield cannot be a specific town. It is geographically impossible.

The Simpson's Springfield is:

*Within walking distance to the desert
*A new england port town
*Driving distance to New York
*Driving distance to Tenn
*It's been modeled after Hollywood complete with a "Springfield" sign in the hills, a miracle mile, and Sunset Strip
*The view from the hills above is modeled after the San Fernando Valley,
*There are, right outside of town, wide open farm fields...

I could go on, but if you have more than two brain cells to rub together you'll understand what this all means; "Springfield" is the 'Visa' of towns... it's everywhere and everything you want it to be.

I believe the state where the Simpsons live is supposed to be unknown ... an inside wink at shows like the Brady Bunch which never told you which state the Brady's resided.
Though it is true that the behind the laughter episode state that the Simpsons are from northern kentucky, it was a gimmick episode (though a very good one) so I discount that one
I have been trying to figure out this for a while as while. For various episodes, those states as mentioned are eliminated.

What has confounded me was the in a very early episode, the radio station call letter starts with an "W" (east of the mississippi river) while in all subsequent episodes, the call lettter starts with an "K" (west of the mississippi river).

well ... someone will figure it out by the process of elimination.

<< I thought one recent episode acknowledged the fan's quandry as to where the Simpsons lived and said there are already enough clues to figure it out. >>

Yes, they did, and my answer is the correct one.

Yeah, I remember that too, but I still haven't been able to figure it out. And for those who keep on saying that the Behind the Laughter episode conclusively proves that they live in Kentucky, it say's that they are FROM northern Kentucky, not that they currently live in it. From is completely different. I don't even think the creaters know where it's located.
