Very nice. Logitech makes great speakers, and those have really nice specs. I saw some reviews a while back, when they first came out.

I just receieved my z5500's from Amazon; they're about 305 after shipping I believe......simply the best set of speakers I've ever heard. Everything about them is amazing....they get soooooo loud without fuzzing or anything....and the sub is incredible. 188 watts of pure stomach vibrating bass (when you stand by it).

I really like mine. I'm far from being an audiophile, but they sound great to me.

sweet. H20polodude, u should get an audigy2 or for cheaper, get a sound blaster live! 7.1 both from creative labs. I'd say my audigy 4, but you don't need it unless you are insane and you want top-of-the-line

Instead of spending $60 on speakers and $50 on a soundcard, why not get a speaker set that's around that price combined? You could get a set of z-5300e speakers for about $127 + shipping. Integrated audio has come a long way. Unless you have quality issues like crackling from it, I think you're better off investing in a better speaker set than going cheap on the speakers to get a soundcard too.

I've got a set of X-530's coming on Tuesday (warranty replacements for my Z640's that sorta died last week), I'll let you know how they are (if I remember to )

If you have integrated sound from a modern motherboard, then it should be fine. You might even decide that you don't want to buy a soundcard at all.

I would say give your onboard sound a chance. You can always get a soundcard in the future (for cheaper too), and I get the feeling that you'll be more than satisfied with the sound coming out of the mobo.

As for which set of speakers, Logitech simply makes good ones. the 5300s are basically the best deal on the planet, more powerful than the X-530s, and much much cheaper than the 5500s. I really wanted one, but I ended up buying the X-530s because it's so cheap (under 50 bucks), and the monster of a subwoofer on the 5300 is just too huge. I've actually been very pleased with the X-530s, and I've even thought its relatively small sub is more than enough for me.

So in conclusion, I'd say skip the soundcard, and as long as you're not some crazy audiophile, give the X-530s a shot, and you've saved $100s that you can use on the important part of the computer, such as being able to get a bigger brighter (maybe widescreen) monitor!

Very nice card for music, especially in 2 channel systems. Games are fine too, but you're going to get a bit of a performance hit as you would with any card other than an audigy. It's a great budget card and gives you the option of digital out if you ever want to use it.

but less of a hit than onboard?

I think it would be similar... since the CPU would be doing any surround processing in both cases.

I have a set and they are pretty good. The only thing I do not like about them is no swivel on the speaker mount. I had to put my rears on top of a bookcase behind me and they cannot be pointed 'down' using the stands. Otherwise, a pretty good sound and it sounds clean with little noise or pickup of noise from things like cell phones.
