Are there any 15" IPS low res laptops available?

Is anyone aware of any manufacturer that sells a 15" laptop with a low resolution (1366x768) IPS panel, preferably glossy? Or maybe a 14" with a low resolution IPS panel?

I'm aware of a couple that sell a 13" with those options, but I'm looking for something a bit bigger and I'm not interested in 1080p and changing DPI settings.

Thanks.

While I don't have any examples, IPS and glossy rarely mix. You might find a better quality glossy TN panel better than average though.

I hate, hate, hate my new glossy screen and will go back to matte the first chance I can.

notebookcheck.com has a lot of that kind of info and reviews...

Actually, there are TONS of glossy IPS touch/non-touch panels...however, IPS panels 14" and up are only offered in 1080p+....that I am aware of. I personally prefer glossy as I've been using a glossy screen for 10 years and matte can be very hit or miss depending on the intensity of the coating. IMO, IPS also does not mix with matte either since it makes the shimmer worse. Aware of notebookcheck but I haven't found a 15" or 14" with 1366x768 IPS. Keeping the dream alive. Thanks for input.

Thanks.

I use an Asus K53 which came with a 15.6" 1366x768 TN panel. However, you can buy a 15.6" 1366x768 IPS panel with the same mounting holes and connector. This is the only laptop I know of that can be upgraded like this because usually the panels either have a different connector or different connector location or the mounting holes are different. Here is a link to the data sheet for the the replacement panel in case you are interested in a transplant:

I bought my screen from here:

but they are currently out of stock. You maybe able to source the panel from elsewhere since you now know the part number.

Awesome man, exactly what I was looking for. One question about swapping out panels, Can I replace a 1080p panel with a 768p panel or do I have to match the original resolution? Thanks!

Not sure. The problem you will have is if the resolution of the panels means that the number of LVDS channels changes. For example 768p 6 bit uses 1 channel of LVDS. Not sure what 1080p 6 bit uses. Might be two channels. If so downgrading from 2 channel to 1 will make things complicated. I have no experience with such a downgrade. Remember the mounting hardware also has to match. I know the K53 series match all the hardware of the linked panel.

Here are links to three tn panels that are interchangable with the LG panel linked above. If you can find a laptop that uses one of them you can probably swap the LG IPS panel:

http://www.panelook.com/N156BGE-L21_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_12337.html

http://www.panelook.com/LTN156AT05-001_SAMSUNG_15.6_LCM_overview_8765.html

http://www.panelook.com/B156XW02 V2_AUO_15.6_LCM_overview_698.html

My transplant involved the N156BGE-L21 being swapped for the LP156WHA-SLA2. Those two are definitely equivalent.

I'll have to take a look at the latest links when I get back home since my work computer blocks it.

I'm actually looking at a dell e5550 and, just eyeballing it, the connector (eDP) and mounting holes look like they're in the same position as the panels you included in the first link. I'll have to do a bit more research to be sure. Should I be worried about current draw of the different panels or is eDP a standard that can handle up to a certain amount? I noticed the panel with a higher brightness (which is the one I would order) draws more current. Thanks.

Believe or not Lenovo has tons of this stuff - even in the business class Thinkpad series. And if you go to Costco; 2/3 of the laptops are low resolution screens with modern looking plastic chassis that look like the MacBook Pro along with the 1TB hard drives inside!

If you have the technical skills to post on an internet forum, you have the technical skills to set 125% dpi on Windows!

I haven't been able to find this. Perhaps you can point me towards the 14" or 15", Thinkpad laptop with 1366x768 resolution IPS screen? I would appreciate it. Thanks.
