Are there any 768MB GeForce 8800GTS out there?

I have searched everywhere but can't find a 768MB GeForce 8800GTS card!

MSI has a 640MB version but lack the G92 GPU if i'm not misstaken.

The thing is i plan to buy a 24" LCD and people tell me that it's best to buy a 768MB card to support monitors above 22"

My dilemma is this:

I want the GTS card since it has the G92... I also want 768MB to fully support my 24" LCD.

I could always go for the 768MB 8800 GTX card but it does NOT have the G92! IF that matters?

So what to do?

I have decided NOT to jump onto the SLI/Crossfire train at this time and the Multi GPU cards does not seem to be the most cost effective option right now. (Wont let me play Crysis with everything on + 4XAA) IF that matters

So i will wait a while before buying an extreme OVERKILL card...

Any help, suggestions appreciated

Cheers!

No such animal. Closest you can come to that is:

8800GS (G92 96 shaders) 192-bit GDDR3 (two models 384MB and supposedly a 768MB)
I haven't seen the 768MB model in the wild yet.

Note: this would perform nothing like a 8800GTS G92 with 384 bit bus. If it existed.

Are you sure the GS is G92? Isn't it just a cut down G80?

No GS is indeed a G92 chip.

And no such thing as a 8800GTS 768MB, there are models with 1GB though, not that it would help much, memory size is not a limiting factor for video cards right now, memory bandwidth on the other hand... that's an entirely different story.

They make 1GB 8800GT cards thats prob. thats the only G92 based cards that I'm aware of w/ higher end performance. and more than 512mb of memory and you can still get 8800GTX cards for 300ish after rebate.

Thanks for sorting this out!

My thinking right now is to go with the 8800 GTX as it's a proven and tested card.

The LCD i'm going to buy is the 24" Dell ULTRASHARP 2408WFP.

If i wanna watch movies in Full HD and play games at 1920 resolution the 768MB will come handy with the extra memory bandwith.

These GTX cards are available for a reasonable price in Sweden, which do you recommend considering noise level, low temperature and performance? Any other manufacturer you recommend?

Asus Extreme GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 (EN8800GTX/HTDP/768M)

Leadtek GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 (PX8800GTX)

MSI GeForce 8800GTX 768MB (NX8800GTX-T2D768E)

The 9800GTX comes out in 2 days. But more memory doesn't give you higher memory bandwidth. I higher clockspeed and wider memory bus does. But the 8800GTX has a wider memory bus than the 9800GTX will.

Yes i know that more memory does not equal more memory bandwith. I wrote that sentence a bit misleading i realise now.

Ok so the 9800GTX does NOT have a 384 Bit Bus! So does this mean that the older 8800GTX still rules?

What will the 9800GTX cost?

The thing is i have almost all parts for my new rig except the grapics card and i want to build this rig next weekend.

So i'll probably skip the next generation GPU and/or buy a multi GPU card in the next year or two.

Regarding the "best" manufacturer which of the cards that i mentioned earlier do you guys recommend?

Of the 3 768MB ones, it's kind of up to your preference. They are all the reference design with reference clocks. So throw a dart, or pick one based on the whole package, warranty etc. If I was buying, I'd go with either the ASUS or MSI. Just because they are bigger companies that I've bought motherboards or other components from, and I trust them.
