Are there any comic book fans in this forum?

I just recently got back into collecting over the past year or so. It's some pretty good titles out there these days. Some of my fav. titles are:

Just a pilgrim
100 bullets
The Darkness
Ultimate Spiderman
Fantastic Four
Batgirl
Battle Chasers (this has to be the slowest series in existence, you have to wait months in between issues)

I got a load of comics I bought in the early 90's that I need to get rid of.

If I only save my paycheck instead of dumping it into that.

Yeah, I have been an Xmen fan since about issue 180 or so and have been reading them since (till about a year ago). I like Detective, Batman, Superman, The new JLA, Amazing Spiderman. Mainstream stuff mainly, I did enjoy The Sandman an Preacher as well.

I've been collecting since the early 80's and have books as old as 1962. I do not buy too many new comics, since most of what is out today sucks. I do have to admit I enjoyed the new Punisher series that just finished up and the Ultimate Spiderman is pretty cool. I have over 9000 books in my collection right now. The old Chris Claremont X-men was the best or the Peter David stuff on the Hulk kicked ass.

Hammer - What's the storyline in the Sandman and Preacher about?

Blackflag - wow 9000 is a pretty nice collection, I think I have about 2000 in mine. Where do you store your comics? Are you able to keep everything in good condition?

I'm a huge comic book fan but had to stop collecting about a year ago because of lack of time (to read) and storage space. I've been collecting since the 70s and I have lots of great stuff like the first issue of the new X-Men, 1st appearance of Wolverine (in the Hulk) etc.

One of my goals is to create a database to store all the comics I have but it'll be a data entry nightmare!

"Something told me to stop with the leg. I didn't listen."

Best series ever, Batman: TDKR. `Nuff said. I love just about everything done by Frank Miller (Ronin, the afore mentioned Batman: TDKR, Miller's Daredevil, etc). Truth is, I stopped collecting when prices started getting out of hand (around the time Image and Valiant really hit the scene). At one time I was getting 30 series /month... then it dwindled to 20, then 12, 8, 3, then none (although I do buy graphic novels every once in a while). I'd really like to get back into it again at some point, once the greed in the industry has diminished a bit.

BTW, I've got almost as many books as BlackFlagg, around 7K. Almost all of them in acid-free bags w/ backs, my more valuable books in Mylar or Lock-Tites. I've got a few complete series too: Thor 1st series (from his 1st appearance in Journey into Mystery), Conan, Cerebus, Sandman, etc. Not to mention a healthy amount of golden and silver age stuff; all Amazing Spidermans back to issue 11, X-Men #94 and up, assorted Batmans back to issue 25, and the like. That hobby was almost the only thing I put $$ into for 7 years, it didn't hurt that my uncle gave me all of his books (most of them in VG or better).

I have the Todd Mcfarlane Spiderman Collection from Amazing#298 to his last Issue.

Frank Millers mini series on Wolverine.

Tons of xmen, Batman, Death of Superman.

I have a load of Image stuff like Youngblood, Spawn.

I have a ton of Valient.

Many independents like Razor, Shi and Vampirella.

I need to sell some of this stuff. All are M/NM condition with boards and bags. Like 10 boxes at moms place. No room at my apt.

The "Death of Superman" series was the thing that soured me a bit on the comic book industry. Too much greed and not enough attention on good storytelling...

I have a lot of image stuff too, but recently as in the last couple of months I've been focusing on Marvel. There's also some really good independent titles out there, Crossgen is probaly one of my favorites right now. I also dig vertigo and black bull, they have some good stories in their books as well

I collected for a couple of years as well...mostly the various Spiderman and Xmen titles. I agree that Frank Miller rocks, I have a couple of graphic novels of the Frank Miller Batman stuff.

I used to collect. I have a bunch of Spawn stuff. I've got Jim Lee's first X-Men cover, the first time Wolverine and Sabretooth fought, and a few other landmark type issues. My favorite books were the ones with the alternate type histories (I can't remember what the damn things were called). The one I liked best was the one where Clark Kent grew up in Gotham City and experiance all the crap that Batman went through. Basically, you had Batman with Superman's powers. Kinda cool.

I think I am missing about 15 or so books from my Uncanny Xmen coolection for a complete run. 1,3,4,5 and a number of the reprints are about all I need, oh and the last year or two's worth also. Sandman and Preacher are too long and complex for me too adequately try to summate in a few paragraphsm suffice it too say those books are some excellent writing and artwork. Sandman "Seasons of Mist" was the only comic to ever win a Hugo Award, I believe that is how fine the writing was on the books. Neil Gaiman rockz and Garth Ennis rulez!

the preacher was badass! i kinda got into collecting around '92, but the market kinda peaked judging by the amount of crap Marvel was shoveling out. now i just read whatever my friends collect. haven't read sandman yet but heard enough amazing things about it to want to read it.
