Are there any good AGP cards to purchase anywhere?

My 3-year old video card is failing me, and I don't have the funds to do a lot of part replacing, let alone a new rig. If possible, I'd like to get an AGP card similar to the one I had (see sig) since it served my 1080P gaming needs just fine. I can't seem to find any stores that carry the one I had, so are there good alternatives you guys can recommend?

I'm not aware of any AGP-only mobos that will support a C2Q. I'm also not aware of any AGP 8800GTS 640MB cards. Can you post your mobo model?

Well looking at Newegg the best AGP card that they have is something like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161284

The rest is a couple of 4650s and a bunch of trash.

Looking at these benchmarks http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...hd-4670-512mb-gddr3-video-card-review-11.html I can see that it looks alright but it's not a fast card at all (even when you consider the price range).

You should probably look into upgrading your motherboard and cpu (you can get cheap AthlonII X4 cpu and cheap AM3 motherboards that make a pretty decent system) then you can get a more modern video card like a 9800GT in the 100$ range(if you want to go nvidia) or 5750/5770 in the 150$ range.

This. I think the most likely scenario is that you really have a PCI-express card, but that would also be a good thing, because you would have a much better selection of cards at much better prices.

You of course have a PCI-express videocard. They never made 8800GTS in AGP.

Check if limited lifetime warranty applies to your card first (or call EVGA):
http://www.evga.com/support/warranty/

Depending if you play games or not, you may get a cheapo card <$50 like 4670 or get a GTS250 1GB for $90-100 or ATI 5770 for $130-150.

Haha, you guys know more about my rig than I do it seems.

Here are the basic specs of my HP Pavillion a6000:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3377269

I didn't register my card with eVGA, so I guess I'm out of luck. I'll call them but doubt they'll help me. In case I have to buy a new one, is there a card with an approximate amount of juice to match what I had for a reasonable price? Dual DVI output with the ability to play 12 vs. 12 1080P TF2 2Fort @ 60+ fps is all I ask. Thanks!

Eh, strike two. I tried going on distant memory but you're right. I'll post specifics after I write it down and get to a working PC.

BTW, I called eVGA. They said I should send my info in and they'll see if something can be done. I hope they can help me out.

In 2 weeks, this 8800GT should be in stock for $45: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-118-_-Product

Alternatively, I would look into GTS250 1GB for $100 or likely throw another $30-40 for 5770. (Although both of these are probably overkill for TF2)

But wait until EVGA gets back to you.

Basically 8800/9800GT will be slightly faster than your card, GTS250 would be say 30% faster and 5770 probably 70% faster.

Here are some Videocard charts:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...2009-high-quality-update-3/benchmarks,70.html

Oh snap... thanks for the info! Even if I get my card repaired, maybe it's time to step up in the world. If it can hold me for maybe three more years, I'll be fine. 95% of my PC gaming is TF2, but occassionally I dabble in other titles (ME2 is on my hard drive untouched right now).

Oh, I finally found my exact PC.... the HP Pavilion a6152n:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3445434

Core 2 Quad Q6600 (K) 2.4 GHz
1066 MHz front side bus
Socket 775
Intel G33 Express

Motherboard: Asus IPIBL-LA
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Berkeley-GL8E

PCI Express x16 One (One available)
PCI Express x1 Two (Two available)

So are there any restrictions on modern vid cards that WON'T work on this rig for some reason? All of the ones mentioned above are fine? I'm looking at this puppy:

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Rade...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269472224&sr=8-4

PCI Express x16 (One available) <--this means any videocard will work. But with your processor and likely weak PSU in that system, I wouldn't get anything faster than a 5850.

arredondo, you can get a 5770 much cheaper than that.

I have an Antec NeoHE 500W PSU triple +12V@17A, but that's considered weak? OK, I'll look at the 5850s.

EDIT: Wow, the 5850s cost twice as much as the 5770s! Was that a typo maybe?

Hmmmm. I may then settle for the 5770. While it isn't as capable for 1080P as the 5850, it's a significant upgrade over my 8800 GTS, right?

BTW, you mentioned that I can get the 5770 cheaper? I usually go with Amazon when I can to avoid the sales tax. I live in California and the taxes are insane over here.

Ya at 1080P, you'll want a 5850 or faster. See if you have an option to pay extra to upgrade to GTX470/480 with EVGA

Asrock 4coredual VSTA supports both C2Q and AGP, as well as PCI-E (x16 connector x4 electrical)

OK, I looked at this comparison chart of the 5770 and 5850 and a card close to my current one (GeForce 8800 GTX):

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...tml?prod[3249]=on&prod[3253]=on&prod[3239]=on

It seems that the dramatic difference comes not just with 1080P over lower resolutions, but also if AA and AF are applied. I think I can get by with those two options turned down on a 5770 if my fps takes a hit in the games I play.

The 5770 is consistently 10-30 fps faster at the highest rez over the card that approximates my own, so it'll be an upgrade for sure. Also, as you guys point out, my processor is a bottleneck so I wouldn't benefit from the 5850 that much anyway. I mostly play TF2 so a 5770 is all good for the cheaper price, and for games over the next few years until I get an entirely new rig, I should be fine.

This version on sale at Newegg might work but it's a 3L model. Does that have any significance I need to be aware of?
