Are there any good space Sims out there?

Looking for something with space, flight, orbit, etc. Watched someone play Kerbal space program and I couldn't get into it, I guess from watching them on YouTube it didn't look that interesting. The concept was very cool, but seemed repetive.

Is there anything out there that's interesting? Or am I missing something about Kerbal?

Well traditionally "space sims" were really about ww1/ww2 airplane combat in space like wing commander, freelancer and freespace 2.

If you're looking for "real space sims" (aka more real physics) you won't find anything other then the evochron series or Elite dangerous.

Thanks for all these links I will look into them. I was recently looking at Reentry which is a sim of the Apollo and Mercury capsules launching, orbiting, and re entry into the atmosphere bi think it's still in alpha though.

I have elite dangerous and it gets kind of tedious after a while but I haven't spent as much time with it.

I hope it has some type of tutorial to get started. It reminds me of no man's sky. I also hear this one is pretty popular.

I think I'll start with this one. There are plenty of YouTube videos and tutorials I've seen of people playing it. It's cool that it gives you missions and things to work towards.

Yeah because an *actual* space sim would be boring AF unless, you know, you are cool with flying in a straight line for 5000 years.
So focus on the fun bit, getting there.

Otherwise it's all space-airplanes, as zink said.

I only played a small portion of kerbal on my friend's PC. I was just messing around so no clue what I was doing.

I did get a new flight stick and what sucks is I would go back and install ED and play it in VR but my warthog hotas stick already had binds whereas this new stick I'll have to bind everything.

Space Engineers is really good but far from complete. In fact i think its been in Early Access for about 5 years now.

I knew it was alpha but had no idea that it's been in alpha that long. Lots of games in this genre seem to be this way.

No its been in unofficial Beta for a long time.
But they keep adding new features and dont have a solid plan or goal for release.
Buncha jackasses making a really cool game and taking forever.

I ended up getting Kerbal space program. Hopefully I get a chance to spend more time with it soon. Found a good series of YouTube tutorials for beginners.

I'll probably also look at Reentry too as that one seemed interesting.

Elite Dangerous gets my vote for space flight sims. And yes, I bought a HOTAS just for it...if only the cheapest one along with foot pedals or whatever they are called. Awesome in VR too!

I also got Reentry - An orbital simulator. It's got some pretty cool tutorials and missions, all of which are pretty historic.

While ascending is simple, keeping orbital distance, docking, and retro burn down during reentry are not so easy and each flight capsule has it's own programs to learn. There's the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Saturn capsule modules that it comes with. The developer is pretty active on YouTube, Reddit, and steam boards too. It is early access and was released this November but I think it's already better than go for launch Mercury.
