Are there any other Obama supporters/voters scared like me

I've followed 538, I'm glued to RCP, and clearly Senator Obama is likely to be the next president, but I have a really sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that something is going to happen, whether it's accidental (voting machine malfunction), intentional (see Florida 2000), or just white people sure they want Obama, go into the booth and say to themselves, I don't feel comfortable giving a black man the vote (Bradley effect).

To me, Senator Obama is the best choice we've had for president in a VERY long time, maybe close to 50 years, but I am truly scared of what will happen if he loses. I hope no riots start, or any of that crap, it's just the idea of having another religous nutwad in the Whitehouse, McCain doesn't scare me too much, I would have probably voted for him if he ran in 2000, but after the smearing dumbya and rove did to him, he didn't have a chance, and post election, and fast forward 8 years, the maverick that was, is no more.

I am scared of compassionate conservatism of the dumbya years continuing for another 4, I am scared that the war in Iraq will have no end date, I am scared that a Presidential candidate McCain sang
"bomb, bomb, bomb,
bomb bomb Iran."
To me that was akin to dumbya looking under tables while 'joking' about wmd's. Meanwhile US soldiers are putting their lives on the line for that joke.
In all probability, Senator Obama from the Great State of Illinois (my home state )
will be elected president, I just hope it's by an indisputable size, well over 5% and well over 50 EV's.
I'm not trying to chicken little here, I am just another citizen, deeply scared that a very flawed system could prevent a very talented, intelligent man from becoming president of the US, again.

And please, try not to troll, I'll do the same.

I am starting to get a tight knot in my stomach as well. Very much the same feeling as 2004 when I thought there was no way Bush would be reelected because of his poor policies.

We are getting down to the wire, and all national elections tighten up at the end. Frankly this one hasn't tightened up anywhere near what I expected.

I do know your concerns and despite all my objective knowledge, sometimes feel them myself. I agree with your sentiments on Obama-to me, he's the best candidate in my lifetime since Bobby Kennedy (and we know how that one turned out-we ended up getting Dicked (Nixon).

Best thing to do is take some positive action. If you can't afford to take time off Monday or Tuesday to help the campaign, then you could phonebank from home now, or at a minimum talk to relatives, friends, etc. about voting. You'd be surprised-there are a fair number of people (including everyone on P&N who talk politics constantly), but I bet you have some elderly relatives who have not spoken to a single living soul about who they want or why. If you could persuade two or three real voters, or drive them to the poll, you have greatly magnified your vote.

I get a knot in my stomach thinking about If Obama wins and the democrats have a super majority in congress. This would be the death blow to this country. Nothing but bad can come from either party have a fillerbuster proof majority in congress.

But to be honest I do not feel good with either candidate winning.

I have that same fear, but all you can do is make sure you and your family/friends votes. I'm just hoping on minimizing voter machines error/long waits.

Let me translate-

UHH-WAAAHHH! Uh-Wah! uh-wah... (whimper)...

Unseemly coming from the folks who threatened the "nuclear option" wrt judicial appointees, applied the Grover Norquist definition of bipartisanship, and were crowing about a permanent majority not so long ago...

Now the Wahmbulances are getting booked up until next spring...

Dems don't have the lockstep solidarity exhibited by cookie-cutter repub politicians, anyway. Hell, if I know my party, they'll filibuster themselves...

Still better than the possibility of Palin as President.

Thanks Thump, and I will get off my ass, and at the very least get starting on calls, I know my family is pretty politically divided, but screw it, they all know where I stand, so me asking them to vote for Obama, would be as shocking as me asking for some more turkey at thanksgiving.

I think I'm more worried about the legistlative branch than the executive this time. I don't like either Presidential candidate, especially now that McCain chose Palin.

What worries you guys about Dems in power? Afraid they might start a war of adventure? Spend us into a $10 trillion hole? Trample our civil liberties? Propose frivolous constitutional amendments? Trash the environmental regulations? See science as a political tool?

Come on man, there's been enough of this bs, he/she stated a valid concern, without trolling IMO.
Let's try to keep this civil, please.

Exactly. I fear that despite all of the posturing, we will just have lots of corruption and lots of spending. It doesn't matter which one of them wins. All we can hope to do is to tie the hands of the law makers and the President as much as possible so that they get bogged down.

Government should only act when truly necessary.

...and after you register them teach them how to read and follow a couple simple instructions... part of the right to vote is the responsibility to have a clue...

and for a person from il to diss fl about election shenannigans is a bad joke...

McCain/Palin could be a worse ticket than Bush/Cheney in 2004. I'm truly scared of what fuck-ups they could accomplish together in the White House if elected.

That's why I'm doing everything in my power to help Obama.

Not anymore. Two days ago a calm hit me. If mccain wins, it was just meant to be. We can move on, safe beyond any doubt in our knowledge that democrats are losers and would I want to empathize with complete losers at that point? No. If mccain wins, which remains very unlikely, only a loser could still call themselves a dem and we should be happy that the debate is now over so we can stop worrying about it.

and let the recriminations start with big head barry if they do lose... they could have saved all the little people a lot of contribution $$$ had they just sat down and come up with a deal to let hil be queen and barry be prince...

but the dems can't even make a deal amongs themselves...

had they done that 2 years ago we wouldn't even to have the general election... the repub ticket would just have gone home and started figuring out what to do in 4 years...

but egos are the biggest in the game of ruling...

It's a justified fear. I could not believe people voted for Bush in '00. I was horrified when Bush was re-elected in '04. I wouldn't be surprised if Americans want more pain with McCain.

"price will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do youll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders."

the earth will keep turning no matter who wins on Tuesday, progress will keep chugging along, and whether America has to suffer through four more years of republican rule or four years of a democratic supermajority, the sun will rise on Wednesday and we'll do fine as a country.

Did you vote for Kerry in 2004 to prevent a Republican majority as well?

Personally, I like Obama. And if something unforgivable happens to him, I think Biden would make a fine president.

I don't like a super majority, but I think Obama has the interests of the nation at heart and won't let Congress bully him into passing bills that he doesn't support. In any case, there's really only one way to find out.

Even if McCain wins, he will have to contend with a Congress that will be majority Democratic. I have no doubt that McCain would be unable to pass his tax breaks and his joke of a health care plan with a Democratic legislature in his path.

My biggest concern with a McCain administration is Palin. The people who say McCain = Bush have gotten it completely backwards -- it's Palin = Bush. Palin has the same vindictive and secretive leanings as Bush. For example, look how she conducted state business over Yahoo! email in order to hide email from the public record (btw - I used to work in state government, and using webmail for confidential government communications was an offense that could result in termination). She abused power in the troopergate scandal. She appointed her high school cronies to state office. Remember "Heck of a job, Brownie"? If something happens to McCain and Palin became President, it could lead to disaster for the country. She's also a hypocrite. She tells people that Obama is a Socialist, yet she appropriated profits from oil companies and handed out checks to Alaskans. Palin would still have to contend with a Democratic Congress, so hopefully there wouldn't be too much damage.

This I agree with.

The worst a president can do is start a nuclear war. McCain has a higher chance of doing this than Obama, although both are close enough to zero.
