That's odd because when I had Bitdefender free I had to log in.

I actually got a popup asking me to login after I posted here. :| I got in touch with customer support and gave them my key, they said they would disable the popup from their end. We'll see. Pretty ridiculous having to contact them over a popup box... a "don't show again" checkbox would be easier. It's ridiculous having the popup box in the first place. I have no intentions on signing up for their online shit...dashboard..whatever it is.

Not one problem, the Lenovo will not break a sweat. Tho, given the chip in question, bet U could upgrade yr RAM some if the board permits. Can't imagine it would not permit.

I ran (run) an earlier build of NIS on my now backup desktop with the Presler chip, P D, 3.40, 3 GBs of DDR2 (running W7 but 32 bit in that machine) and Norton was light as a feather even in that system.

Never tried Webroot; again, I luv what I run, unless that changes, I am sticking with NIS; I never have to do anything, it updates, it scans while the system is idle......it's one app, once configured, I never have to even think about.

All I do every few days is empty the history log via the advanced button.
Okay brother, installing NIS then. I love them too, I think it's been 7 (or 8?) years I have been using them, and I love them too. However one thing I never understood that why it still gives me some false positives even when I have put my desired hard drive part under 'exclusion'. What's the way to tell NIS to not scan my desired drive, by not scan I mean not scan AT ALL?

I love Tolstoy, Faberge, etc. but Russian Roulette, not so much.

With the Russian government controlling all its enterprises and with Russia being an awesome hacker of the US, I would not touch Kasperzky now. The Russian government is also dumping IPADs for Samsung Tablets. Politics screws stuff up. I am also looking for an AV suite that I can load on a brand new ASUS ROG I have not turned on. Would appreciate any help.

Btw the browsing issues in Avast have been fixed with latest update(final now for awhile).
(9.0.2016).

Hi all,

We are more than happy to announce AVAST 2014 (build number 9.0.2016).

We're introducing several important pieces in this release:

* Stream Filtering -- fixed stability and compatibility issues, it's running smooth and fast now, so no more browsing problems

* ARA/ARC -- implemented internal architecture improvements, if you can, please test these components, thanks a lot

* Firewall -- the firewall should be more stable and with better compatibility with other network applications

* Improved! Software Updater – new installation wizard lets you download and install multiple updates at once directly from download.com

* Improved! Browser Cleanup – improved detection and removal of browser protectors, those tools that try to block us from getting rid of annoying toolbars

* Improved! GrimeFighter – now supporting 12 additional languages and with an advanced console for more control of optimization tasks. Go ahead and fight the Grime!

My main bug about Norton Internet Security / Antivirus Is this:

I also use Host file blocking (Hostsman), and when it is enabled, Norton constantly scans the host file, using a constant 13% of my CPU 0, and then everything else in the machine slows to a crawl. I wish there was a setting to tell Norton to ignore my Host file because I am manually controlling it.

I have found that it's user experience more often than not. I have used Bitdefender Free and never had a problem except you had to create an account and log in. I have tried Avast and it slowed the Internet down and caused my downloads folder to take forever to open. I always used to use Avast, but in my experience using it and doing Internet speed tests it slowed me down. I currently use Panda Cloud and I have never seen a false positive. It did detect some game hacks so I just excluded them in the trash can of Panda Cloud. No biggie.

User experience is right since we all have different hardware/software etc...Bitdefender Free kept crashing my ME3 game online so only lasted a short while on my PC,Avast especially latest version is just rock solid and fast plus I don't know its there when gaming etc....

AVG was fine for me as well on my other PC,Panda Cloud is not bad but I prefered the older version for stability.

I use Panda Cloud on 8.1 but haven't had the false positives issue. It neutralizes tracking cookies every scan but not seen falsies, just lucky so far maybe
VERY lucky, it caught like more than 10 FPs on my system and according to reviews I've read, it's very good but has horrible FPs

I use Webroot SecureAnywhere which is no better. Sick of false positives but can't use any other as there is no lighter AV than Webroot and Panda

I have no issue with speed or resources with any major AV Suite, with that being said, I hatem all. However I purchased Eset Nod32 v7 via newgg for $5.00 so I bit.

Its ok, not a resource hog by any means, till I adjusted the annoy popups I hated it now all is well.

All these major av have morphed into huge suites of applications, some very invasive , some not so much, I miss the day of just having a Anti-virus engine, period.

At work, we administer Webroot Secure Anywhere endpoint protection, I was skeptical at first, but its growing on me....very small footprint, IP based administration, cloud based.

I have it installed on my testbed, 2nd rig and laptop, I am starting to favor this solution, other than that, its the end user that is the best security, ya know the thing between the kyb and chair.......

Upgrade to 8.1 so ya don't need to worry about aftermarket AV more or less, NoScript for browsing and a few other things and don't worry about it IMHO.

I still have a few other things in place though in some apps.

yeah I loved Webroot SecureAnywhere until I got tired from getting daily FPs

Read this, it's a joke, media fire, and eBay are among the sites listed as not safe

Someone please do something about the False Positives and Web Reputation

Although its the lightest AV out there, It makes my day hell dealing constantly with FPs

How many false positives have I got with MSE? Zero.

It's the only product I've tested in the past three years that hasn't given me some sort of headache.

All these reports of slowdowns and false positives are like a car manufacturer installing new and improved airbags, but they cause your radio to cut out, or worse, the engine.

I have used a few AV over the years, and I've only ever seen ONE false positive, and it was last month.

But I have seen very many false NEGATIVES from Microsoft Security Essencials.

You know why? Because MSE isn't really an antivirus. It's basically a part of Windows Update...

No anti-virus is going to protect users from themselves. A lot of malware is designed to circumvent security software once it's installed. It makes no difference what AV you have installed if the user clicks "yes". If you're dealing with stupid people, then you're dealing with stupid people. Anti-malware solution is supposed to be a second line of defense.

I'd rather have a reasonable level of security on my system with as little intrusion as possible.

I haven't used a third-party antivirus since like forever. Windows 7 MSE more than does the job and it's very light on resources (as opposed to all other third party solutions I used before)

I remember Super AntiSpyware flagging all my C# projects as Malware. Got rid of that POS pretty quickly.

First, Superanti isn't an AV; it deals with malware. Next, I've been running it all my life---once the Pro, now the free--- and never once have gotten a false positive.
