Are there still American POW's in Vietnam?

I heard a very interesting radio interview last night. the guy who wrote this book says that there are still were 700 POW's left in Vietnam after the 550 were retunred in 1975.

the interesting part is that the story actually starts in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Castro captured a whole lot of the invaders and pretty much held them as ransome to pay for war damages. Kennedy paid that ransome to castro and got the captives back.

then Vietnam heats up and Castro takes a trip to Vietnam and tells the Communist that if you want money after the war you need the capture as many americans as you can. America will pay for their release and you can use that money to rebuild. well the war ends and a secret deal was struck. Nixon agrees to pay the money and we do get some prisoners back. Vietnam then says hey wehre is our money but as history tells this happens just as watergate explodes and the money is never paid so vietnam kept our people.

now fast forward to when all the boat people are coming to america. many many many of them told our government that they had seen and talked to american prisoners as late as 1981. the book also has satellite images some really recent of rice fields that has the airmans secret code used in escape procedures. there are also satellite images of names of our servicemen in the fields.

im going to get this book and read it. if anything in it is remotely true i will be pissed beyond reason.

Sounds a little tinfoil hat to me, but I can't say that it's impossible. Vietnam is trying real hard to be friends with us and I would think that continuing to hold POW's wounldn't be in their agenda.

But, if any of this is true - then we need to take it very seriously and it would definitely be time to call in Chuck Norris.

I'd have to see a little more verification on this. I am no expert on the Bay of Pigs but my understanding was we were supposed to provide CAS for the invasion but pulled out at the last second. But none of our troops took part in the actual invasion, only the training for it.

It wouldnt surprise me if we had POWs left behind. But after 30+ years, to be alive today would be a miracle.

I sincerely believe we pulled out of Vietnam KNOWING that we were leaving behind thousands of POW's, and NOT all were turned over in 75. I still have (and occsionally fly) my POW/MIA flag for those who never came home.
I suspect many who were never found, were sent to either the Soviets or Chinese...perhaps to extract information from, or ...?

We will probably never knwo the truth of this. I too believe at least a few were left behind for whatever reason. But also suspect that most known POWs that were not released were actually killed during interrogation and their bodies buried or cremated to leave no evidence of the torture our men went through.

That is so freakin' messed up.

Here we are, waving the cheap plastic flags we bought at the nearest Walgreens and "celebrating" Memorial Day for the day off instead of treating it as what it should be: A day of contemplation for the lives laid at the altar of freedom. Yet here we are, ignoring such a huge black eye in our government. Jesus-I hate politicians and I always f**king will.
