It just occurred to me to check via Amazon and TripleC and it's not terrible, not great.

Any recommendations for some lighting for eBay pictures? We have a cheapy light box, but looking for something for larger shots of bigger items, using a mannequin, etc.

We have used those cheap lights for photo and video work, but I think they're not ideal for what you want to do.

The light box is probably your best bet for small to medium sized objects. Here's the one we use:

For large objects, I think an on camera flash would be okay with a backdrop. An off camera could be more versatile and potentially better since you could more easily direct the light, use it as a steady light with modeling mode and more.

Check Godox for reasonably priced on and off camera flash setups.

Can't show you examples from several companies we worked on at home for examples of each type of light! Sorry! They were a kids' hair care products that's sold at a major store and a men's shave club products.

Here's one that's for a friend where we used the light box I'm allowed to share. We shot the products using the light box linked above. (The images with the light streaks were done with a bare RGB LED bulb with a long exposure, so not those)

We've got nothing. We have <drum roll> a galaxy s6 phone. Yay! Clearly you can see we are not going for the top end
But, when I buy stuff I still try to buy with an eye towards the future when we might have a decent camera.

Anyway, what kind of basic stuff SHOULD we have. We do now have a dedicated room in the basement where we can setup a corner for shooting larger items and a table with the lightbox for smaller. The lightbox came with some lights, after a few uses its better than our crap setup we had before (basically nothing) but we also used it for a goofy video clip we shot and the lighting was just...okay I guess.

Some basic halfway decent quality lighting material to produce consistent good shots is what we are going for. We are already over the very low bar of most eBay sellers, but we like to do things as good as we can given budget/circumstances.

Okay, if you have a light box, get a cheap tripod w/a cellphone holder so the shots are consistent. It may be possible to set a timer on the cellphone's camera so there are no shakes. You can use your cellphone to edit the shots with Snapseed. If you need more power, consider purchasing Affinity Photo for the PC or Mac to remove nagging blemishes.

Great suggestion! We already have a tripod with a camera mount. The good news is, the new room means we have the space to actually use it! Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I was focused more on lighting than general equipment. Though general equipment is good too!
