Are these CPU temps reasonable?

I am running an Athalon XP 1700 (not oc'ed) with the swiftech MCX-462 with a panaflo M1a 80mm (~30cfm) blowing down, like swiftech says. However, my temps are normally 50 when at desktop, and 56 C during games. I used Artic Alumina as my thermal compound, and the Asus probe utility to moniter temps. Are these temp reasonable, or is something wrong with my cooling setup?

What motherboard? Different MOBO manus have different accuracy(if it can even be called that)

Honestly, if you can run a DC project on it 24/7 and it stays stable and never crashes, you can safely assume you are in the green.

I have the Asus A7V266E (kt266a), and the asus probe software came with it. Also I have the Addtronics W8500 case that have more than enough airflow (my mb temps are 30).

Assus boards have calibrated their temp reading a little higher (10C higher than Abit boards) to compensate the thermistor inacuracy.
I think max temp for your setup should be 65C at full load. So you are at 56C, thats pretty good.
You have no stability problem, have you?

so my temps are truly between 40 and 45 C? (Can anyone else confirm the asus thermal probe temperatue scaling?)

no.

Your CPU is probably right around what the asus is telling you, not lower. If anything, it could be a little bit higher. The other mb's you're looking at simply reads temps even lower than actual "die" temps.

The Asus boards/bios compensate the readings upward to try to compensate for socket-thermistors reading too low. However, if you look at the internal diode/A7V133 tests, the asus compensation still ends up being a little bit under actual "die" temp.
