Probably shoulda posted this yesterday.....I ordered my Plextor 40/12/40 yesterday....order status says stock on Feb 7th, so i should have it on Friday Feb 8th.....


Im in the UK, ordered it from Dabs

Listed with Long Lead Time Expected, as they often do when they add things before there release... cost is £157 inc VAT (17.5% sales tax)...less than i expected based on the US and Europe price info from press releases etc, i figured itd bemore like £170 (fellow countrymen will appreciate that we generally get ripped off...)...and its also gonna arrive much quicker than i thought, i ordered it on the assumption of a few weeks, but its gonna be less than 10 days...woohoo.

When I lived in Australia, I really hated getting movies, music, etc slower. It seems like it's not as bad as it used to be, though.

Makes a change for a manufacturer to realise that when they charge on average 35-50% more for their product here as they do compared to the US makes sense to send here first for bigger profits.
Has me wondering why everything doesnt come out here first seeing as we pay way OTT compared to everyone else
The Radeon 8500 retail is one that sticks in my throat.
I ordered one ages ago, kept getting fobbed off with Long Lead Times and unavailabilty everywhere so gave my money to nVidia instead :/
The 8500 retails i did find in stock were going for silly money - nearly ti500 prices!
Strange thing is that the UK is awash with OEM/LE 8500's - do they think were dumb or something or do they feel their 8500 retail is not much better than the LE so waste of time pushing? hmmm?

I used to order a lot of stuff from Dabs, but one item (cant remember what) said Long Lead Time, and they kept putting the expected date back and back (we're talking at least a month!) so I cancelled it and havent ordered from them since, thats maybe about 18 months ago. I've discovered they arent always the cheapest anymore.

Lately, I find myself ordering most stuff now from either scan.co.uk or Stak Trading. If you live in the UK, check these two out the prices are very good and I've have very high levels of customer service from both of them.

I use scan alot but you really can't beat dabs with their free delivery on stuff over £75!

Yeah, I've bought from Scan a few times, they are quite good, except for their delivery charge, but then again, it is next day courier, so thats not too bad.

I have used Scan in the past but their RMA policy is a bit cutthroat so i dont order from them nomore, also their carriage is a money earner - joke
I like Dabs as theyre good on carriage and RMA, but the Long Lead Time prob has hacked me off a little too often for my liking lately Insight come a close second to Dabs with great RMA
Komplett look good, and they have all the Gainward cards so maybe they will get my next vid card order if the GF4 4400 is up to snuff and Gainward have an extremely overclockable part available
I also use eBuyer, Misco for my Antec stuff and also GB.buy.
Wish we had as good a Pricewatch type search site as you guys in the US
The best one i have used here in the UK is ComputerPrices.co.uk
Heh, i had a look on Dabs this morning and theyve finally got the retail 8500's at £230ish.
If i get some time later i'll post all my shop linkys for my fellow Brits
Maybe of some help to you guys when your price searching or looking for something you cant get hold of.

Well, Ive had great experience with dabs service. The Long Lead Time happens usually when they add somthing before the products initial availability, that way they can feel out the demand and order extra additional units even beore the release if they see the need...im quite happpy for them to do that...i ordered it expecting weeks till arrival, and yet its only 10days...seemes alright to me considering the 'mid feb' due date according to Plextor. Sure id now be a lil dissapointed if i didnt get it then, but its weeks ahead of what i was expecting so its all good.

The only time ive had a delivery problem with dabs was a couple months ago, and it was certainly not thier fault...it was Logitech's....and infact, they redeemed themselves with some brilliance, hehe. I ordered a Cordless Desktop Optical, which were in severe constraint at the time, nowhere had em in stock...availability was put onto 3-4 weeks...a few weeks later Argos managed to aquire a lot, but they were £20 more expensive...dabs said theyd be getting em on such and such a date...the date came, and with it an email to say that it was put back from that friday until the monday at least....the monday came, and the stock of 1 came....and duly went, leaving my order 'awaiting stock' and the item listed with 3-4weeks availability again, doh....but alas, on the tuesday i checked again, and there was another item of stock...scrambled to check my status in the offchance, and found it to be ' complete '...got it 10am the next day, wooo

And with that, i should add that every single item ive ever ordered from dabs has been shipped 'next day', for free, despite their advertisement of 1-3days for free web shipping...nice...



Also, Simply have started carrying Antec stuff recently....

OCuk have the retail 8500's for around £220 i believe.....not used them personally, and my friend has had one bad experience with them (he was not without blame himself though, and their forum users seem generally positive about their service...)
