Oh no problem. Nvidia will slow down the older cards in their drivers slowly but surely. I bet they have a long term plan to make RTX 3000 obsolete.
Has Nvidia done this in the past? I've noticed lately that my 1060 6GB has been getting less frames in the same games I've been playing and also less points while folding. Still getting the same frequency on the card including memory, but less performance it seems.

No, they don't do that. They will eventually stop optimizing for new games though.

Usually they will "optimize" something that speeds up the current cards at the expense of the older cards.

Yet another reason why I refuse to pay a cent over $300 for a new 3060 Ti with full warranty. Hell makes me not want to even pay $250 since the Ampere generation is about over and you gotta wonder if 3060 Ti will fall from being a little under 6700 XT performance to more like RX 6650 XT performance once Lovelace is the current gen in the upper midrange.

Yeah that's Nvidia for you, still kick myself over cheaping out and not getting an RX 5700 when they were $300 instead of the $240 I paid on a 1660 Super
Aussie Steve tweeted that in his upcoming CoD MW2 shootout, the 5700XT bodied the 2060Super by 60% at 1080 and 1440. That's crazy sauce.

If he lives in a colder climate, heat pumps aren't an option.

I use an evaporative cooler in the summer, super cheap to run (about $30 a month). But in the winter, we spend a lot of time in freezing temps, and heat pump efficiency drops significantly below 40F. So very few homes here use heat pumps, and those that do, aren't happy with them in the coldest months.
My Bosch heat pump is pretty darn efficient at producing heat down to 20-25 degrees.
Below that it’s in the oil cost range. Single digit I am not sure.

I believe that's due to a driver issue on Nvidia's end, but we'll get a better idea soon enough.
Yeah, he says he was getting a lot of crashes testing Nvidia cards, almost none with AMD. 2070Super is too far behind the 2080 in his test too. He doesn't know why as of his tweet.

It is strange, because I have been watching zWORMz play on a bunch of different cards, and I don't think he has had any major issues like that. He mostly uses a 5800X 3D and 5700G now.

Yet AMD is the one with the crappy drivers.

He got the driver issues sorted, and the 5700XT is still 40% faster. Most impressive! Review is up BTW.

Oh on topic: I almost bought a used Red Devil 6900XT for $530 or so. Then I remembered I don't want to deal with 3 connectors, Radeon Chill not withstanding.

Yeah, TSMC will keep charging high prices. Nope, the correction will continue and expand.

On the topic of 3-nanometer, the picture painted by UDN is not great either. Its sources suggest that the monthly average output for the new technology was slated to sit at 44,000 wafers previously, and this has now dropped by a whopping 34,000 wafers to now sit at 10,000 wafers for a 77% drop.

That's N3. The problem N3 has is that N4 is comparable in quality and cheaper per transistor despite the N3 density gain.
Funny. How many billions again they invested and now expect a return? You seem to think a company can just charge more because of the thinking "they need us". This reveals that beyond a certain point, the truth is, they realize that they don't need us and that need us point is falling because of uncontrollable world events. Cuts are coming throughout the supply chain. I know you think that printing more money solves the problems, but thankfully wiser heads see the truly disastrous end scenario with that policy.

By the way, the article linked in the post, also mentioned that the fab support companies are seeing their orders from TSMC cut dramatically, implying across the board cuts in throughput. I just didn't quote it.

I suppose however, we should keep being hopeful.

Can someone tell me why 5500XT video cards are so expensive still? Almost like they didn't get the memo that ETH mining is dead.

Or is there something else mineable that I should know about?

Why would a used 5500XT card cost as much as a new 3080? (~$800)

I've seen 5700XT used for $200.

Edit: These 8GB D6 RX 5500 XT (from China) are only $59.99!

Either that's a miss-price, and it's going to get cancelled, or those are "power-washed" ex-mining cards. In which case I ordered several, in order to get a couple that work.

@VirtualLarry

My guess is that the ones priced so high that you'd expect it to be for a lot of 6-12 miner cards, are old listing that have never been updated by the seller.

The refurbished for $180-$200? Must be in no hurry to sell, and hoping someone not watching the market will buy them.

Current pricing on the RX 6600 makes everything below it a poor value. There was a NIB model as low as $199. No way I'd buy a heavily used 5700XT mining card over it either; warranty, better media support, superior performance per watt.
