That appears to be part of the reason for the rally
The good thing about this is that even if it continues to rally, no rational miner would invest in new cards with the merge hanging over their heads. They will just continue to mine on the old cards until it happens.

Yeah it'll just delay the card flood.

AMD doing a not so subtle price increase on the 6700XT & 6750XT in the UK, I did wonder why the 6700XT refused to drop to even MSRP (£419) for 2 months & the 6750XT should be £499 (price obtained from a retailer that has never been met). 6800 MSRP is the £529 that the 6750XT has slotted in at with the "sale" price.

Also some retailers are being quite shady with their "sales" emails, saying "save £270 on this 6700XT @ £449" despite that being the current price AMD wants them sold at.

-If China shoots down a plane carrying the house speaker then... I dunno it was a good run everyone looks like we're not making it passed the great filter.
It will not escalate to nukes.

It will escalate into a full on naval war though. The US has been planning unrestricted submarine warfare against China for a long time now. What we did to Japan's merchant marine v2.0. Pretty ugly, but both parties here are mature enough not to use nukes.

Everything will be fine. The 4070 will be a 12GB banger of a card with a $399 msrp and match a 3090 in performance. The 4080 will be insane with 16GB and a $599 msrp. Good times are back. Or, yeah, they shoot the plane down and we all get conscripted for WW3.

That's why it makes sense to go out now & buy all the compute gear you want before the shite hits the fan... so to speak!
If Taiwan gets into VERY hot water, the whole computer industry will go south very quickly.

I doubt it would happen, but it is a scary thought. An invasion of Taiwan with TSMC and other vital tech industries falling under Chinese control.

Perhaps that is one reason TMSC is building a 12 billion $ plant in Arizona? I would think that they also have some sort of plan to destroy/sabotage the Taiwanese plants if the Chinese do somehow invade.

That would be a very bold move and it would result in certain death for almost everyone involved in that effort, save for the Taiwanese engineers that China will need to keep alive to rebuild everything.

No, the reason for the Arizona plant is to expand production capacity. As of last year, they were at full capacity and unable to take on new clients and orders.

Por que no los dos?

It's also for national defense purposes, US Govt wants to have fabs located in the US so the military can continue to secure "clean" components in the event of a China/US/Taiwan throwdown.

Taiwan might get attacked by the ChiComs...we're more interested in how it might affect our compuer parts and prices...

Something else could spell bad news for GPU prices (and semiconductor industry).

LOL deleted already.

Taiwan might get attacked by the ChiComs...we're more interested in how it might affect our compuer parts and prices...

That conflict would be mostly off-topic. Worrying about how it affects computer parts/prices would be the only on-topic element of even mentioning that particular problem. Yes I get what you're saying, but wrong thread/wrong forum blah blah blah

What do you mean by attacked? When China is finally united will get even cheaper video cards. It cannot happen fast enough.

China is already unified.

However, China adding more occupied territories to its cruel and evil empire is unlikely to result in cheaper video cards:

1. The US is required by law to defend Taiwan.
2. It is very likely China will cease exports to people shooting at it.
3. Since the majority of computer board final assembly is done in China, this would result in a massive supply shortage resulting in skyrocketing prices.

War would not result in cheaper computer components in our lifetime.

Exactly, your comment imo is completely relevant to the topic at hand. But geopolitical realities are hard for some to digest.
