Just curious, but what percentage of your electric bill do you think goes just for your video card, and how much does your video card cost in comparison? I am imagining your bills must be frightful if the price of the video card is OK.
Hehe, I'm also going to look on the overall price/performance ratio on the different generation of cards. If for some reason AMD and nvidia decides to do a fire sale on the old generation, I wouldn't dismiss the idea totally. But usually it is the same or better with the new generation. But let's see when the numbers are in.

Do you believe this deal on Ebay? Copper shim kit valued at 250 pre installed?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1342693257...o6zzspb0iuYA79Q6zZVipzqTvn4K|tkp:BFBM-POEkfdg

When first modded, copper shims are fantastic.

Sadly, they magnify the pump out effect:

Resulting inferior to stock in about 100 heat cycles.

Tricks people do with de-lidded CPUs, like liquid metal, can slow this down quite a bit. But then your dealing with liquid metal, which is the sort of mod you absolutely want to know was done perfectly.

Power prices depend on how much and what kind of local power generation is in your area. I live near a dam and a nuke plant, and I get ~$.11/kWh. Not so bad.

Nuclear is extremely safe. Even the most serious nuclear incident in the US resulted in zero deaths. A dam can be a higher risk, if you are downstream in a close proximity, which is rarely true.

If he lives near a dam, it is almost certain the dam is upstream from him. Towns get built near water to begin with.

It'd be more dangerous to live near a coal fired plant. You'll get more radiation from that then nuclear.

Nuclear is and can be extremely safe if handled right. Proof? Just look at the US Navy safety record.

Yes. Coal is one of the most dangerous forms of energy, but most of that danger is either born by miners (the other kind), or by the general populace in the form of cancer and lung disease, where it is impossible to attribute individual deaths to it, although you can see it in the statistics. It may actually be safer to live fairly close by, because then the exhaust gasses from the tall chimney will pass over you.

And nuclear accidents are usually the result of poor safety standards, or at Chernobyl, an intentional attempt to see if the plant can recover from two simultaneous serious problems, while messing up the recovery procedure. And even then it only went wrong due to a design flaw.

He's talking about radiation. There's more radioactives released per KW by burning coal than NPPs.

Yup. Coal is relatively radioactive.

Of course, fly ash is such wonderful stuff too. Especially when stored, where there is potential for seepage into the groundwater table and/or nearby river systems.

After lying in wait, waiting for a deal to strike, I found one I could live with. Canada Computers has this one for $300 CAD+tax+freeship (amazon Ca is $10 more).
It will replace my trusty 1060 3GB, which I bought used about 2 years ago (I don't even remember). Assuming it fits in my case and my power supply can handle it. I might be able to maintain 60fps in Deep Rock 1440p now.
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6600 EAGLE 8G Graphics Card, WINDFORCE 3X

Update. Since I made that purchase, Amazon CA had a 6650XT for $10 less. It is backordered for a couple weeks and out of stock 99% of the time, but I hit F5 enough to place an order for that.
I then canceled my 6600 order. Hopefully they don't ship it, and hopefully Amazon doesn't cancel the 6650XT.
I am seeing more sales on the AMD 6000 series. There is also a 6750XT at $450 after mail in rebate. So to go back to the OP topic, it does feel like prices are finally dropping.
